An argument ensues, weapons are drawn, and the greaser falls. A newly appointed deputy accompanies the sheriff on the cowboy's trail. They pursue him to the home of the deputy's sweetheart, where, on his plea that the affair was an accident, and that there is a girl waiting for him "back there," she hides the cowboy in a closet and denies having seen him. After the sheriff and his deputy have ridden away, the girl returns to the house and discovers that her money is gone. The cowboy, fleeing through the woods, pauses to count the money and discovers in the little bag a note from the girl's aunt, enclosing her savings to purchase a wedding dress. Conscience stricken, he returns and asks the girl to forgive him. The deputy also returns and, seeing his man attempt to escape, fires, for that is his duty. Written by
