The psychiatrists examine him, and Mr. Hejhula claims that he has two bells, one big and the other a dying bell. But the doctors, led by the chief medical officer, don't believe him. They think he's crazy and lock him up. In his room, Hejhula plays cards with the patients, who advise him that if he wants to get out of the asylum, he must say that he has no bells. But he has them.
