Abstract This article intends to show tensions in language planning processes in Indigenous families. It questions the wide spread assumption amongst Language researchers and activists that grandparents and also mothers traditionally act as and represent Language maintenance subjects. Empirical data from research done in Mexico and Bolivia by master students of PROEIB Andes evidences Language displacement attitudes and behaviour in older and female members of rural and migrant Indigenous families.
