1 Cristo Redentor
De braços abertos, o Cristo Redentor tornou-se o símbolo da receptividade do povo brasileiro. Foram nove anos desde o lançamento da pedra fundamental, em 4 de abril de 1922, até a inauguração, em 12 de outubro de 1931. A equipe responsável pela concepção era formada por três pessoas: o engenheiro Heitor da Silva Costa, autor do projeto escolhido por meio de um concurso; o artista plástico Carlos Oswald, que fez o desenho do monumento, e o francês Paul Landowsky, que respondeu pelo projeto arquitetônico. De tão impactante, a imagem de 38 metros feita de cimento revestido com pedra-sabão, que desponta no alto dos 710 metros do Corcovado, foi eleita em 2007 uma das novas Sete Maravilhas do Mundo.
Christ the Redeemer With arms wide open, the statue of Christ the Redeemer had become symbol of the warmth of the Brazilian people. It took nine years since the laying of of its cornerstone, on April 4 th, 1922, until its inauguration, on October, 12 th, 1931.
