Every aspect of Kashmiri literature, from language to the theme of the texts, has seen an evolution with time. While the oldest works were composed in Sanskrit, Kashmiri literature has been written in various other languages such as Koshur, Persian, Urdu, and Hindi: the contemporary

The essay written by Vaidehi, one of the most significant names in Kannada literature, is a mixture of the writing styles of a short story and an essay. It deals with the gender politics revolving around the most common of the objects in our lives today: a table and a chair. The chapter attempts to analyze the operation of patriarchal norms in most Indian households; it also provides an insight into the minds of elder women, who with time have learned to discipline the younger women and girls into obedience and submission to men.

The Kashmiris feel that they, along with their resources, have been exploited for profit by India whereas the natives have suffered the repercussions of the adverse impact of the Indian presence in Kashmir. The consequences include extreme environmental damage which has been overlooked amidst other more serious aftermaths of the seemingly 'unlawful' Indian occupation of Kashmir. The current paper deals with the representation of environment and related issues in Kashmiri fiction with special reference to Mirza Waheed's The Collaborator. While the narrative establishes the victimhood of the Kashmiri natives due to oppression, it devotes a significant space to the environmental abuse too. Waheed's narrative is the story of an unnamed teenager who lives in the nostalgic memories of episodes with his childhood friends, all of whom have crossed the Line of Control to train as a militant to secure freedom for Kashmir. The unnamed boy narrates the reverberations of the Indian occupation of Kashmir on the Kashmiri natives as well as the environment and surroundings of the place once designated as 'Jannat,' or heaven on earth.

Cultural pluralism can be stated as one of the factors which cause racism, because the presence of multiple cultures leads to a sort of competition between them for supremacy over one another. Different cultures compete for dominance over another, thus leading to the birth of a dominant political culture. In some nations, different cultures co-exist, for example, the term 'melting pot' is generally used to refer to the United States, which denotes the assimilation of people of different races and cultures into one homogenous whole. But with the advent of multiculturism, its proponents rejected the metaphor 'melting pot' in favour of terms such as 'salad bowl' or 'kaleidoscope', which denotes the intermixing and coming together of people of different races and cultures, but each one retaining and maintaining its distinct racial and cultural identity. Multiculturism, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica, is the view or ideology which acknowledges the differences of the minority cultures, races or ethnicities from the dominant political culture. This paper studies the role that race plays in shaping of the fate of literary characters;two novels, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys have been taken into account (Rhys's novel is often seen as a prequel to Bronte's novel, as it is written from the viewpoint of Bertha Mason, a character in Bronte's novel, who was so highly discriminated against in the story that she wasn't even given a voice of her own).
