The efficiency of EMS depends on its timely responsiveness to the demand and the integration of available real time travel/traffic data into the vehicle scheduling and routing model. This paper focuses on designing the routes for emergency vehicles by developing an optimization model based on the available knowledge of real time traffic information using the Google Maps Distance Matrix API. The heuristic approach involves formulation of the vehicle routing problem as an integer programming model and optimizing it by integrating with Google API. The main components of the model are incident location, vehicle tracking, shortest path finding and dispatch optimization. This simulation strategy is validated by various samples and a series of tests.

ABSTRACT: Due to increasing motorization, construction of flyovers and growth in transport network, the noise level has exceeded the prescribed limits in many Indian cities. The health implications of high noise levels are being identified as hypertension, sleeplessness, mental stress, etc. Due to this adverse effect of noise level, it is essential to assess the impact of traffic noise on residents and road users. This research is an effort to quantify and analyze the traffic noise emissions along bus rapid transit corridor in Delhi. Field measurements were carried out to understand and assess various aspects of the impact of bus rapid transit system corridor on land use and social lives of residents and road users. The present analysis presents the comparison between observed and predicted noise level at selected corridors and also describes the mitigatory measures to overcome such type of traffic noise pollution through design of noise barrier along the road an...

This makes a need for priority ranking model to select and schedule road sections for maintenance treatments according to their maintenance needs. The objective of this study is to use Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for developing a priority ranking model for maintenance of urban roads. The priority model has also been developed using Direct Assessment (DA) method and results were compared with AHP model. In Direct Assessment method, the experts were asked to rate the importance of each parameter affecting the road maintenance, on a scale of 0 to 100 percent whereas in AHP the experts were asked to make a pair-wise comparison between the parameters based on Saaty's scale i.e. 1 to 9. The pair wise comparison matrix was prepared and evaluated for inconsistencies using Expert Choice version 11 software. Statistical tests wer...

It is either as a single station or an interchange hub, accessed by human, mechanical and vehicular system. Hence, it is important that such transit station must meet minimal level of service and be a part of overall efforts to improve transit services for increasing rider ship. In this context, Multi Modal Oriented Design (M2OD) is used which defines neighborhood character in design and provides mobility friendly environment. It also encourages a mix of mobility options to cater needs of both present and future travel demands. Further, the role and responsibilities of transit operators, facilitators and users are crucial to extend better accessibility to transit station.

The locations for the study have been chosen on the basis of land use pattern. Each pollutant has been observed by 12 hours from 8:00 to 20:00 hours. According to air quality scale, the air quality status has been measured at each location and zone. From the study it is found that the residential zone has highest air quality index in comparison to other zones.

In this study, a new filtering strategy has been proposed to filter out the train sound from other surrounding noises using Mat lab 2013 software. The sound level i.e. between 0 to 65 dB has been filtered out using the system. The message warning alerts for train approach various positions of unmanned railway level crossings have been generated using this system. Time domain analysis resulted in rise of train sound than original composite signal with the approaching train. The maximum, minimum and mean sound pressure levels and bi-level measurements at different areas of crossing have been compared and analysed for both original composite and filtered train sound signal. The system detection probability has been found to be quite high (i.e. 95%) and false detection to be very low (5%). Therefore, the performance of the train ...

In this context, Twitter is becoming popular among the people to share the events that affect the daily life. In this paper, a novel dictionary formation and a new feature generation approach is proposed to build an integrated machine learning framework to detect the traffic events. The proposed novel combinatorial feature generation approach (CFGA) uncovers appropriate associations among the keywords of tweet and extracts the correlated keyword sets to the data collected. Such keyword sets are denoted as set phrases . The set phrases may comprise of single or multiple words of a tweet. These set phrases may be used as keywords for event-related data collection or further analysis. The frequently occurring set phrases are identified using the notion of support, which signifies the percentage of tweets containing relevant keywords. Since the nature of different events may also vary; therefore...
This paper presents the design, simulation, and characterization of a novel low-noise amplifier (... more This paper presents the design, simulation, and characterization of a novel low-noise amplifier (LNA) and active mixer for intelligent transportation system applications. A low noise amplifier is the key component of RF receiver systems. Design, simulation, and characterization of LNA have been performed to obtain the optimum value of noise figure, gain and reflection coefficient. Proposed LNA achieves measured voltage gains of ~18 dB, reflection coefficients of -20 dB, and noise figures of ~2 dB at 5.9 GHz, respectively. The active mixer is a better choice for a modern receiver system over a passive mixer. Key sight advanced design system in conjunction with the electromagnetic simulation tool, has been to obtain the optimal conversion gain and noise figure of the active mixer. The lower and upper resonant frequencies of mixer have been obtained at 2.45 GHz and 5.25 GHz, respectively. The measured conversion gains at lower and upper frequencies are 12 dB and 10.2 dB, respectively. ...

Genetic programming (GP) has been used to develop five models for the prediction of pavement distress: Model 1 for the cracking progression, Model 2 for the ravelling progression, Model 3 for the pothole progression, Model 4 for the rutting progression, and Model 5 for the roughness progression. The data have been collected from the roads of Patiala City, Punjab, India; during the years 2012–2015, the network of 16 roads have been selected for the data collection purposes. The data have been divided into two sets, that is, training dataset (data collected during the years 2012 and 2013) and validation dataset (data collected during the years 2014 and 2015). The two fitness functions have been used for the evaluation of the models, that is, coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE), and it is inferred that GP models predict wit...
