What is a bias incident?

bias incident is an act or behavior motivated by the offender’s bias against facets of another’s identity. Bias occurs whether the act is intentional or unintentional.

Bias may be directed toward an individual or group. Bias may contribute to creating an unsafe, unwelcoming environment.

When should I report?

When you experience or witness something that you think the University should know about.

This site serves as a communication channel for members of our community to share their experiences with us. Even if you’re not sure if what you witnessed or experienced was bias-related, we still want to hear from you.

What happens next?

University Police will assess the situation for danger of imminent harm.

A team led by the Dean of Students and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion will review the report and reach out to you to provide care, offer support, and learn more about the incident. If needed, the Dean’s team will direct the report to the appropriate office for investigation.

  • We would like to provide care and outreach. We strongly encourage anyone reporting an incident provide either a phone number or an e-mail address so that we may contact you if there is a need for clarification or if additional questions or concerns arise. Should you choose to report anonymously, we will follow up to the best of our ability.
