Here we compare the centroid size (CS) and wing shape betweenB. ferroaeparents and three successive generations (O1, O2, and O3) of their offspring fed on cockroaches or mice under laboratory conditions. Morphometric analysis of the wings bugs fed on cockroaches showed a significant reduction in CS in both sexes among all generations. Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) was observed in the insects fed on cockroaches (O2 and O3), as well as those bugs fed on mice (O2). Differences in the shape of wings were observed between parental and offspring wings when fed on mice, but not in males (O1, O2, and O3) or females (O1 and O2) fed on cockroaches. There was a greater wing shape similarity between the cockroach-fed offsp...

Here, we study the behavior of black-legged Ixodes scapularis and the lone star ticks Amblyomma americanum exposed to heat sources held at temperatures near those of vertebrate hosts (32 °C). First, we used a locomotion compensator to test behavioral responses of ticks to an infrared light emitting diode (LED). The servosphere allowed us to measure parameters such as velocity, acceleration, linearity, and orientation. Then a heating element (Peltier) located in one of the extremes of a double-choice vertical rod (flying T), was employed to observe upward movement of the ticks toward such a heat source. While both species oriented toward the LED, only lone star ticks were attracted to the Peltier element while climbing upward. In conclusion, we showed that heat attracted ticks from short distances up to several centimeters on a the servosphere, and those responses...

For political and economic reasons, scientific skepticism, the ideological fuel of capitalism, impulsed by Northwestern culture, has made the New Synthesis hegemonic, restricting its theoretical diversification. By amalgamating the ideas of several authors, critics of the establishment (Stephen Jay Gould, Leon Croizat, Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadski and Volkmar Vareschi), with some other, as well as ideas of our own, we ’transfinite’ (sensu Juan David Garcia Bacca) the idea of evolution from politics to thermodynamics. Such epistemological experiment is achieved by placing the concept of beauty in its right place, and raising the scope of aesthetic deployment in the processes of life formation. Key Words. Evolution, aesthetics, politics, history, New Synthesis, Eurocentrism, Darwin, epistemologies of the South, ideology, space-time-form.

Commonly, triatomine species are arranged in grades of increasing association with humans. This ad hoc classification has two extremes: domestic and sylvatic triatomines, with in-between levels that depend on the capability of the species to invade human houses. Although the use of these levels is convenient for epidemiological comprehension of Chagas disease, we cannot deny that there are two controversial criteria in the choice of these categorical terminologies: anthropocentrism and adaptationism. Our viewpoint considers these elements as problems of the current and widespread classification system for kissing bug species regarding their association with humans. Anth...
