History

Figure was founded in 2022 by Brett Adcock, who had previously cofounded Archer Aviation. Chief technology officer Jerry Pratt joined Figure from the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), where he spent two decades leading a wide range of robotics projects, including one of the teams that used Atlas to compete in the DARPA Robotics Challenge.

In March 2023, Figure announced they would be making a commercially viable general purpose humanoid robot called Figure 01. By October 2023, the company began demonstrating autonomous tasks, including dynamic walking, followed by coffee making, and handling bins in a factory setting.

In February 2024, Figure announced a US $675 million Series B funding round, which values the company at $2.6 billion.
