Maria Vasylieva

Dr. Maria Vasylieva is a Tibetologist, Dharma translator, and interpreter. She earned an MA in Translation, Textual Interpretation, and Philology from Rangjung Yeshe Institute, Center for Buddhist Studies at Kathmandu University, and a PhD in Buddhist Studies from the International Buddhist College of Thailand (title of dissertation: “A Study of the Bstan 'gyur Synoptic Indic Commentaries on the Bhadracaryāpraṇidhāna in the Context of the Subcommentary by Lo tsā ba Ye shes sde, Including Their Editions and Translations into English”).
Her academic interests include research and translation of Mahāyāna sūtras and śāstras, in particular comparative textual studies of Dunhuang manuscripts and Tibetan canonical collections.
Maria has served as an instructor of various courses at Rangjung Yeshe Institute since 2018. She is currently an assistant professor teaching courses of the Translation MA program on textual criticism, methodology, and translation, a BA course of advanced Classical Tibetan, as well as methodology of interpretation of the Translator’s Training Program. She has also taught Mahāyāna textual studies and history of Buddhism at the International Buddhist College of Thailand.
