This paper focuses on the influence of local languages and cultures on English giving rise to dis... more This paper focuses on the influence of local languages and cultures on English giving rise to distinctive varieties of Englishes around the world. As Englishizatiion is not just restricted to phonology, grammar, and lexis, it impacts all levels, including discourse, register, styles, and literary genres in Outer circles writing in English (Y. Kachru 2006, K. Sridhar 1987, S. Sridhar 1992). One distinctive feature of South Asian English conversations is the amount of code-mixing and code-switching that takes place in any conversation, be it at home, radio, television newscasts, Bollywood films, schools and colleges, in parliamentary debates, or in speeches of political leaders. This code-mixing and switching also appears in printed media, and creative writers capitalize on it in their works
