Prof. Yousef Tizabi

Short Biography

Yousef Tizabi received his BA in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970 and his PhD in Physiology from Georgetown University in 1974. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Clinical Sciences at NIMH/NIH, he joined Howard University in 1976 where he is currently a Professor of Pharmacology. He is an educator and an avid researcher. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Research Award from the College of Medicine at Howard University in 2002 and has been cited as a Faculty Scholar at Howard University since its inception in 2001. He has trained several Masters, PhD, and Postdocs and has enjoyed continuous funding from NIH, Pharmaceuticals, and other sources. His main areas of research involve the elucidation of neurobiological substrates of mental disorders including depression and drug addiction (alcohol, nicotine, and their interaction). He is also keen on understanding the contribution of toxicants to neurodegenerative diseases. He strives towards providing novel and more effective interventions in neuropsychiatric/neurodegenerative diseases, especially in relation to Parkinson’s disease.
