Group Mentoring Program

What is the AWIS Group Mentoring Program?

A Mentoring Group consists of 5-7 scientists committed to meeting monthly to support one another with advice, encouragement, and information. Each group will be coordinated and fostered by at least one experienced mentor. You do not need to be a woman to apply, AWIS mentoring groups are open to all

The Seattle AWIS mentoring program gave me a safe space where I could talk about my career aspirations and my hurdles. Not only did it allow me to expand professionally, but I also fostered a great circle of mentors, sponsors, and friends

Who will be in my group?

The Seattle AWIS mentoring committee will review submitted surveys and match you with a group based on your interests and career goals.

Mentoring groups will be formed around areas of interest, which can include:

  • Early career support
  • Changing careers
  • Non-traditional jobs in science
  • Teaching science
  • Navigating the workplace (focus on handling conflicts, dealing with different personalities, presenting new ideas, dealing with change, working with a difficult boss, etc.)
  • General mentoring (the group has no specific area at the outset, but can be defined by the group as they progress)
