In providing and supporting IRs like ScholarWorks and in publishing new OA journals. Along with this, the need for librarians to provide services comparable to those of traditional publishers is apparent. The effort for librarians to “tool up” and gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide these services can be difficult to learn or even locate. The presentation will cover research into some of the Byzantine standards and expectations that must be met by modern pier reviewed academic journals and their publishers. With this information, I will present a roadmap for librarians and editors to follow that will align their journals with current standards. This roadmap will be available online and provide links to current examples of how existing journals meet these requirements. This roadmap will provide librarians with clear and accessible information they can use to provide the kind of professional services and support previously available from traditional publishers

Austin State University (SFASU), we have discovered that there are many complex details to launching a successful online journal-publishing program. In our lead role at SFASU, we have streamlined implementation to make this a relatively straightforward process for the journal managers and editors. Most of the journal editors with whom we currently work are experienced authors and reviewers, but they rely upon us to assist them with the design, implementation and editorial processes. Following this, we have found it beneficial to provide comprehensive and personalized customer support and training. Some of these complex details that need our active support include layout and design, management, training and the creation of policies and procedures. Through practical experience, the CDS has learned how to guide the process and decisions and take an active role in the success of the online journal-publishing program.

It is important to present the status of the digitation process for natural resources and to advocate for increased collections of digital material for ease of reference and exchange of information. Digital collections need to include both published documents and ancillary material for research projects and data for future use and interpretation. The methods in this paper can be applied to other natural resource collections increasing their use and distribution. The process of decision making for documents and their preservation and inclusion in ScholarWorks is presented as a part of the Forest Sciences Commons as a subset of the Life Sciences Commons of the Digital Commons Open Network launched and maintained by bepress. Digitization has increased the roles and skillsets needed for librarians and from libraries. This creates n...

You can view the abstract as an opportunity to set accurate expectations for the potential researcher or reader. The abstract should present all the major elements of your work in a highly condensed form as a descriptive or informative summary. The suggested length is between 250 and 500 words. As mentioned above, include in your abstract the keywords that you selected previously in the process. Embargo Period An embargo period is the length of time that your ETD will not be publicly accessible. You are given an option on the deposit agreement form that you will have completed before beginning this submission process as to whether or not you would like to place an embargo period on your ETD. Your advisor must be involved in the discussion and must ultimately approve. If you have chosen not to place your ETD under a...
