Aaron Burr

Aron Ber, mlađi (engl. Aaron Burr, Jr.; Njuark, 6. februar 1756 — Njujork, 14. septembar 1836) je bio treći potpredsednik Sjedinjenih Država za vreme mandata predsednika Tomasa Džefersona.

Nakon što je služio kao oficir u Kontinentalnoj armiji za vreme Američke revolucije, Ber je postao uspešan pravnik i političar. Dvaput je biran u Skupštinu države Njujork (1784–1785 i 1798–1799), bio je postavljen za državnog pravobranioca Njujorka (1789–1791), izabran za senatora (1791–1797) iz države Njujork, i dostigao vrhunac karijere kao potpredsednik Sjedinjenih Država u periodu od 1801. do 1805. godine.

Berovo predsedavanje Senatom (što je jedna od nekoliko zvaničnih dužnosti potpredsednika Sjedinjenih Država) je obeležio prvi postupak impičmenta u Senatu, koji je vođen protiv sudije Vrhovnog suda Samjuela Čejsa. 1804. godine, poslednje pune godine svog potpredsedničkog mandata, Ber je ubio svog političkog rivala Aleksandra Hamiltona u dvoboju. Beru nikada nije suđeno zbog ilegalnog dvoboja, i sve optužbe protiv njega su na kraju odbačene. Međutim, ubistvo Hamiltona je okončalo kraj Berove političke karijere. Predsednik Džeferson ga je izostavio kao potpredsedničkog kandidata na izborima 1804, i Ber nikada više nije imao neku zvaničnu funkciju.

Nakon što je napustio Vašington, Ber je putovao po zapadu u potrazi za poslovnim i političkim prilikama. Njegove aktivnosti su na kraju dovele do njegovog hapšenje zbog optužbi za izdaju 1807. godine. Optužbe su na sudu odbačene, ali su aktivnosti na zapadu Bera ostavile u velikim dugovima i bez puno uticajnih prijatelja. U jednom trenutku je napustio Sjedinjene Države i otišao u Evropu. U otadžbinu se vratio 1812, i bavio se pravom u Njujorku. Tamo je proveo ostatak života relativno izvan pažnje javnosti.
