The School of Architecture has a diverse body of faculty from different parts of the United States and the rest of the world. They include licensed architects, published scholars, local practitioners and designers. Collectively they specialize in design excellence, building technology, environmental sustainability, race and gender, post-colonial pedagogies, architectural history, theory and technologies of representation. The school’s emphasis on integrated curriculum has mobilized their energies on teaching students how to exercise cross disciplinary thinking while engaging them in skill building. They provide student mentorship and guide them to the rich resources on campus. Students interested in community engaged design through design centered participatory training, hands-on learning can reach them for learning collaborative decision making, physical making and doing, training in writing, visual communication, and digital modes of design and thinking. Professional practitioners in and around Salt Lake City are well represented on the faculty. They balance real world applications, and practice in professional practice with critical thinking.
