For our May 2019 “Staff Pick” Project of the Month, we selected Double Commander, a cross platform open source file manager with two panels side by side. It is inspired by Total Commander with several new features. Double Commander was previously selected “Staff Pick” Project of the Month in January 2016 where lead developer Alexander Koblov spoke about the project’s developments and direction. Recently we caught up with Alex to find out how the project has been doing since then.
SourceForge (SF): What significant changes have occurred with your project since you were chosen Project of the Month in January 2016?
Alexander Koblov (AK): Three major releases have been done. Many new features implemented: more hashes types, built-in ssh/sftp client, High-DPI display support, built-in Lua scripting etc.
SF: Have any of your project goals changed since then?
AK: No, it is mostly same.
SF: What project goals have you achieved so far?
AK: I think most of goals that I planned have been achieved.
SF: What can we look forward to with Double Commander?
AK: I plan to add to the next major release the capability to execute operations with elevated rights. So operations with system directories can be done without restarting the program with administrator rights.
Does Double Commander have the capability to locate and manage duplicate files and reorganize them to a common folder?
