    Voler comme un scarabée

    Des scientifiques de l’EPFL ont découvert que les scarabées rhinocéros se servent de mécanismes passifs plutôt que de muscles pour déployer et rétracter leurs ailes. Ils se sont inspirés de ces résultats pour concevoir un microrobot, démontrant une approche simple et efficace pour développer des micromachines volantes ressemblant à des insectes….

Biography:
Amir M. Rahmani is the founder of the Health SciTech Group at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and the co-founder and Co-Director of the Institute for Future Health, a campus-wide Organized Research Unit at UCI. He is also a lifetime docent (Adjunct Professor) at the University of Turku (UTU), Finland.

His research includes AI in healthcare, ubiquitous computing, AI-powered bio-signal processing, health informatics, and big health data analytics. He has been leading several NSF, NIH, Academy of Finland, and European Commission-funded projects on Smart Pain Assessment, Community-Centered Care, Family-centered Maternity Care, Stress Management in Adolescents, and Remote Elderly and Family Caregivers Monitoring.
He is the co-author of more than 350 peer-reviewed publications and the associate editor-in-chief of ACM Transactions on Computing for Healthcare and Frontiers in Wearable Electronics journals and the Editorial Board of Nature Scientific Reports. Un cantilever multicouche pour la détection à l’échelle nanométrique

Un concept innovant de couches pour les dispositifs de détection à l’échelle nanométrique, développé par une postdoctorante de l’EPFL, promet d’apporter plus de vitesse, de sensibilité et de fonctionnalité à des applications allant de la fabrication de semi-conducteurs au dépistage médical.

Deux professeurs de la Faculté STI obtiennent un financement Melexis

Adrian Ionescu et Hatice Altug recevront des financements de l’entreprise Melexis afin de développer des capteurs dans le domaine de la santé numérique. Ils ont été sélectionnés suite à un appel à projets mené dans le cadre du programme d’affiliation industrielle proposé par l’Institut d’Électricité et de Microtechnique (IEM).

Quand les dessins de Léonard de Vinci prennent vie

PROJETS ETUDIANTS – 14 étudiantes et étudiants en génie mécanique ont choisi de passer un semestre dans la tête de Léonard de Vinci. S’appuyant sur ses dessins réalisés au 15e et 16e siècle, les futurs ingénieurs ont construit d’ingénieuses machines, les transformant même, pour mieux en comprendre leur fonctionnement.
