The main thesis of this writing is house church as a concept in the Early Church especially the ecclesiological and missional functions could enriches and develops the understanding of the nature and mission of the church and the life of the church as well. The research is conduct as qualitative approach with four cases studies. The research methodes are bibliographical studies and interviews with leaders of the churches.
The theoretical foundation of this thesis developed from the survey of why and how Jesus, disciples and Paul used the houses in their ministry in the New Testament. It is found that Jesus, Diciples and Paul used the house as contextualization attempt in their ministry. They used the house because house is the basic form for economic, social and religious unit in the society. The use of houses indicate ecclesiological and missional functions in their meeting and ministry. Later this meeting and ministry is called house church.
While houses is important in the ministry of Jesus, disciples and Paul, the writings of ecclesilogy in biblical, historical and theological approaches neglected the house church as the important concept and practice in the Ealy Church. This thesis will demostrate this neglected aspect with four cases studies in Indonesian churches. Two of them represent the mainstream church which is the majority and traditional churches in Indonesia. The mainstream churches are Gereja Kristus and Gereja Batak Karo Protestan. The other is Abbalove Ministries and Gereja Bethel Indonesia Keluarga Allah which represent the cell church which show fenomenal growth and make them mega-church size. While the house church concept is neglected in the understanding of the churches, the life of these four churches show some practice of ecclesiological and missional function with their small group ministry.
In evaluation, the mainstream churches is lack in missional function. They experience more successes in ecclesiogical function such as fellowship aspects at Gereja Kristus and developing lay minister and leader at Gereja Karo Batak Protestan. History of these churches show us that the meeting in the house could develop to local church multiplication. This fact bring great potential to these church to do missional function in much personal and family like situation. The cell churches lack in their theological understanding because they see the cell as strategies to do the church and not taken from house church foundation as in New Testament’s house church. The cell churches will gain a lot of benefit if they embrace the house church concepts as their foundation to understand the church and its life.
The four cases studies represent the churches in Indonesia. Every churches show significant use of houses in their church. This tell us that meeting in the house for Christian give no troubles regarding the minority status in the Moslem majority. All of the churches success in using churches as initial attempt to grow new congregation or multiplying cell. This encourage us to use houses as place to exercise ecclesiological and missional function of the church in Indonesia with family-like environment.

If one looks for literature in journals or books about Calvin, seldom Calvin is connected to discipleship. Discipleship in Calvin's writing mostly discussed in his commentaries of the Gospels, but not in practical way. How did Calvin practically implement discipleship in his church in Geneva? For this reason, this article will answer this question by describing the things that the church in Geneva did under Calvin's leadership. This will be done using literature research, specifically referring to the books Calvin's Company of Pastors: Pastoral Care and the Emerging Reformed Church, 1536-1609 and John Calvin as Teacher, Pastor and Theologian: The Shape of his Writings and Thoughts. This research concludes that what Calvin attempted in the Genevan church in developing sanctification was a process of discipleship. Sanctification is developed through preaching of the Word and maintaining the sanctity of life with the consistory, namely the supervision of church leaders over the people.

Abstract: The churches in New Testament times met together within houses. Why did Jesus' disciples and Paul utilize the house for the church's activities? They did so because the house was the foundational unit pertaining to the social, economic and religious structures of society. The house was a common place that could be used for worship and religious teaching. Moreover, because of the social and economic functions of the household, the house provided a sphere of easy interaction and communication with others in order to evangelize them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus, the disciples and Paul are facilitating contextualized structures in their use of the house unit for the building of Christian community and evangelization. This effectiveness can be evidenced by the wide acceptance of Christianity throughout the first three centuries of Christianity.
