This book examines the literary role played by the Bible in Islamic sources, and will concentrate... more This book examines the literary role played by the Bible in Islamic sources, and will concentrate on the tension between Biblical and Quranic models as revealed in Islamic texts describing contacts between the Muslims and the people of the Bible, that is, the Jews in particular but Christians, too. This book will thus examine certain crucial aspects of the Islamic attitude towards the Other.

This book is concerned with the manner in which the texts found in the earliest Islamic sources w... more This book is concerned with the manner in which the texts found in the earliest Islamic sources which have come down to us tell the story of Muhammad's life, and is aimed to discover how the various evolving versions of this story tell us about the image of the Prophet as perceived by the believers among whom these texts were created and circulated.
