Rama Venkatasawmy

I have a PhD and a BA in Communication Studies (with First Class Honours) - both from Murdoch University, Australia. I have also completed a Master of Educational Studies (with distinction), with a specialisation in ‘ICT in Education’, as well as an Advanced Certificate in University Teaching at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
I am fluent in English and in French.
My expertise is in Communication, Media, Film Studies and the Creative Industries. I have a cumulative experience of 25 years of teaching, research, supervision and programme management in five reputed higher education institutions in four different countries, and I have operated successfully in diverse multi-cultural and multi-lingual educational contexts.
I have the capacity to deliver excellent teaching, to enable exceptional learning experience and to ensure successful programme completion by students. I have been the recipient of one ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning’ and of two ‘Excellence in Teaching Awards’.
My multi-disciplinary research has so far addressed creativity and cultural production, digital visual effects, Hollywood cinema, Australian cinema, and indigenous cultures of Borneo. I have additionally published research papers investigating the implications of big data for media education and, as a result of operating in offshore campuses over two decades, I have produced conference and research papers that discuss various aspects of curriculum delivery, teaching and learning in transnational higher education situations.
