I was so engrossed in drawing “In Rock” by Deep Purple. The cover is a parody of Mount Rushmore, which is excellent, but the song is still in transition. After this, they released Fireball and Machine Head, which are masterpieces.

夢中で描くStrawberry Fields Forever。このプロモーション・フィルムではJohn Lennonの丸メガネ姿と4人の髭面が公に初お目見えとなった。当時考えうる限りの特殊効果映像で稚拙ながらなんとも味わい深い。昔はファン・フェスでないと見れない映像だったけど今ではYoutubeでいくらでも見れるようになった。オリジナル曲はツギハギ編集の極致。名曲だ。

夢中で描いてみたMick JaggerのPrimitive Cool。リリース当初はカバー・アートが可愛いのでTシャツがあったら欲しいなぐらいに思ってた。EurythmicsのDave Stewartがプロデュース、Jeff Beckが参加とそれなりに話題に。Mickのソロ作にはお約束があって必ずKeith Richardsと不仲の時に出る。これもそうだった。今日も僕のイラストを見てくれてありがとう！感謝！

夢中になって描くPet SoundsのThe Beach Boys。Pet Soundsはメンバーのブライアン・ウィルソンがThe BeatlesのRubber Soulの影響を受けて制作したアルバム。演奏にメンバーは誰も参加しておらずフィル・スペクター御用達の名うてのプレイヤーが参加している。またプロの作詞家トニー・アッシャーを起用するなど鼻息荒い作品となっている。The Beatlesはこのアルバムに影響を受けてSgt.Peppar'sを作ることに。同作のプロデューサー、ジョージ・マーティンは後にPet Soundsを超えるものを目指したとはっきり公言している。良きライバル同士の創作の火花であるがブライアン・ウィルソはSgt.Peppar'sを耳にして徐々に人間崩壊していくことに。そんないわくつきのアルバムだけど大好きだ。

In 1980, an album of ballads called The Beatles Ballads was released. I’ve always loved the cover of this album. This illustration pays homage to the cover of The Beatles Ballads.
1980年にThe Beatles Balladsというバラード・ナンバーを集めたアルバムが発売された。世界中でそれなりにヒットしたのだけどなぜかアメリカでは発売されず。僕は昔からこのアルバムのジャケットがお気に入り。絵はスコットランドの画家によるもので当初ホワイト・アルバムはA Doll’s Houseという名でこの絵になる予定でした。今回のイラストはThe Beatles Balladsのジャケットをリスペクト。勝手にYellow Submarine風味にアレンジして描いてみた。
The illustration I drew this time is Band on the Run! I’m engrossed in this. This is my favorite album of Paul’s since The Beatles.
今回の僕のイラストは夢中になって描くBand on the run! The Beatles以降のPaulのアルバムで一番好きなのがこれ。ジャケット写真にJames Coburnと怪奇俳優Christopher Lee（SWでドゥークー伯爵を演じた）がいることでも有名。世界中で大ヒットしたがレコーディング前にWingsのメンバーが2名も抜けたり、気分を変えたくてレコーディングで訪れたナイジェリアで強盗にあったり、現地で活動していた元CreamのGinger Bakerに会って恐ろしい目にあったり難産ゆえのアルバムだったそうな。
