I am physicist by education, dealing with interdisciplinary subjects: luminescence dating and other physcial research methods applied to geoophysical sciences, archaeology and history of art.

However, the use of natural diamond in radiation dosimetry has been halted by the high market price. The recent progress in the development of CVD techniques for diamond synthesis, offering the capability of growing high quality diamond layers, has renewed the interest in using this material in radiation dosimeters having small geometricalsizes. Polycrystalline CVD diamond films have been proposed as detectors and dosimeters of β and α radiation with prospective applications in high-energy photon dosimetry. In this work, we present a study on the TL properties of undoped diamond film samples grown by the hot filament CVD (HF CVD) method and exposed to β and α radiation. The glow curves for both types of radiation show similar character and can be decomposed into three components. The dominant TL peaks are centered at around 610 K an...

TL between 300 K and 700 K, and CL from 200 nm to 1200 nm have been teasured. The glow curves show a peak located around 610 K with different intensities, depending on the sample thickness, associated with a trap of energy, equal to 0.83 eV and with attempt-to-escape-time of the order of 108 s-1. Broad CL bands observed at 428±1 nm (2.90 ±0.01 eV) and 500±1 nm (2.47±0.004 eV) are attributed to closely spaced and widely separated donor-acceptor (D-A) pairs, respectively. The TL and CL results were correlated with diamond quality estimated from Raman spectroscopy measurements.

The samples of modern fluvial deposits were collected from the lower Vistula River at two sites in Toruń and Ciechocinek. Sand bars newly emerged from the river were selected for testing. The coarse quartz grains were separated for OSL measurements. The single-aliquot regenerative (SAR) technique was applied for measuring equivalent doses from multigrain aliquots. The obtained dose estimates were found to be very low, proving the reliability of the OSL zeroing assumption. The dose rates were estimated by gamma-ray spectrometry, demonstrating homogeneity of the radiation field. Analysis did not show significant relationships between the examined sediments’ capacity to zeroing and their structural and textural characteristics, or the sampling site. The obtain...

The zip file contains sequence files for Risø and Freiberg Instruments readers as well as the complete dataset from eight laboratories: Ankara (Turkey), Bayreuth (Germany), Bern (Switzerland), Bordeaux (France), Glasgow (Scotland), Gliwice (Poland), Milan (Italy) and Torun (Poland). Two different measurements were executed: 110 °C TL (Thermoluminescence) measurements with 10 different heating rates and ITL (Isothermal Decay) measurements from 30 - 80 °C (in 10°C increments).

Adjusting dose rate values to the desired level is a convenient tool in luminescence dosimetry and dating, where various samples, significantly differing in age, and therefore in equivalent doses, are to be measured. However, most laboratories usually have at their disposal only one beta radiation source attached to the reader. When it is used in one (presumably standard) arrangement, the source activity limits the highest achievable dose rate, while the lower possible dose is restricted by the shortest irradiation time available – in our case 1 second nominally and 0.85 s effectively. Hence the choice of activity is a compromise between the time saving associated with high dose irradiations and the accuracy of low dose administrations. The goal of this project was to test the possibilities of attenuating beta radiation source in order to achieve lower dose rates. Moreover, we aimed to determine the correction factor for short irradiations, which is caused by the finite operation speed offered by the irradiator. [ http://repozytorium.umk.pl/handle/item/1913 ]

The date of the beginning of its construction is known from historical reports but the earlier history of the site remains undiscovered. During the archaeological excavations in years 2010 and 2011 five brick samples were collected for luminescence dating as well as four additional samples from the brick surroundings for the dose rate estimation. The equivalent dose was determined by TL and OSL methods. The TL results differ significantly from the OSL results but the last ones are verified by historical knowledge and radiocarbon dating. Establishing the dose rate from gamma rays needs a special attention because of the complex course of the foundations of the church. The details of the applied approach are presented in the current work. The results obtained indicate that a solid brick construction existed at the site of the presbytery of the Saint James Church before it was build.

Dzwony są szczególnym dziełem rąk ludzkich. Zwykle wiszą zamknięte w wieżach, gdzieś wysoko ponad naszymi głowami i poza zasięgiem wzroku.
