The Tharus form one of the indigenous groups of Nepal and are mainly concentrated in the Tarai re... more The Tharus form one of the indigenous groups of Nepal and are mainly concentrated in the Tarai region. Health care facilities are very poor in indigenous communities and they adopt traditional methods of treatment. This paper deals with the utilization of government and private health services by the Tharus of Bardiya in Western Nepal Tarai. The paper is based on primary data for which a field survey was conducted in 1997/98. The questionnaire was used as a major instrument of data collection. The total number of households covered was 421. The heads of households were the respondents in this study. The study indicates that the health status of the Tharus is still poor. At the initial stage of sickness they contact the guruwa (ojha). Of the 421 heads of households interviewed 79.81% are utilizing government health services whereas only 54.63% of them are still satisfied with such services. Among them, Bhagavatamahapurana has mainly been consulted for this purpose. The source indicates that the names of the mountains and rivers are similar even today as they were in the ancient period. The paper describes the fact that no one can find out the exact knowledge about the universe. The universe is with in the subject of the Vedic Cosmology. This cosmology has also been narrated in the Puranas. The universe is endless and has no limited boundary. All the living beings that appear today were created by the God and at last merge into the God. This tradition continues. The atheists do not believe the God. The concept of philosophy, Buddha as an Incarnation of Vishnu, origin and evolution of Buddhism and its spatial diffusion, the Buddhist Councils, major Schools of Buddhism, and Buddha's Teachings for global peace are the major areas of discussion in this paper. Buddha's Teachings provide many practical techniques that are useful for calming anger, controlling desire and creating harmonious relationships. Present world is full of violence and corruption. People are in need of comfort that comes from a spiritual path and teaches nonviolence, contentment, compassion, generosity of spirit, and peace of mind. Buddhism teaches us to cultivate peace in our hearts and work to relieve the sufferings of all living beings. Present paper deals with the concept of theoretical and conceptual framework in a research with specific reference to migration studies. A theory provides guidelines for a research work whereas conceptual framework is based on a theory or it is a modified model of the previous researchers that can be developed according to the nature of present research proposed. This paper is an attempt to deal with the issues and challenges of rights-based education in Nepa... more This paper is an attempt to deal with the issues and challenges of rights-based education in Nepal with specific reference to minority and disadvantaged group children at school level. Data and information are from three year formative research activities completed under the commission of CERID, TU, Nepal. Discourses of various stakeholders were solicited in order to elicit information. Students’ interactions, class observations, focus group discussions with people in local communities and district level officials, and district as well as national level workshops were conducted in order to elicit information for the study. The findings of the study indicate that the provisions for rights-based education are still inefficient in order to achieve the EFA goals.
