Cristobal Cea
Born in Santiago de Chile in the 80’s, and currently living there, Cristobal Cea is an artist an educator whose work focuses on the relation between technology and affect; He is currently developing video work that deals with the relation between news footage, distance and 3D simulation, while teaching Media Arts at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Art School.
He obtained his BA from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and holds an MFA in Digital Media from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he taught at the Film Animation and Video program. He has also been a professor of 3D Modeling at New York University (Integrated Digital Media Program) and Merrimack College School of Art.
His work has been shown internationally in screenings, group and solo exhibitions such as "Glorias" at Galería NAC, “Transgressions” at 67 Ludlow (NY), “YES” at Microscope Gallery, “Up for Debate” at BRIC Arts Media (Brooklyn), “La Necesidad” (Chile), “Radical Invention” at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Wisconsin, USA), the 798 Beijing Biennale (China), “Agosto 2026” in Galería Concreta (Chile), “Trickle Down Electronics” in Cave Space (Detroit, U.S.A) and the D+M Biennial 2012 (Providence, U.S.A).
His drawing series “Big Data” is part of the Deutsche Bank drawing collection and he has been awarded the MAVI/Minera Escondida Contemporary Art Prize, the MacDowell Colony Fellowship, the Fulbright Scholarship (U.S.A), the RISD Bridge Research Grant, the National Council for the Arts Grant (2010 and 2016, Chile), the RISD President Scholarship (U.S.A), the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship, the Kohler Arts/Industry Residency Fellowship, the Yaddo Fellowship (2017) and the first prize in Fundación Telefónica’s Matilde Perez Art and New Technologies exhibition.

En la misma línea, Žižek dice que la ideología es acción y no-contrario a lo que suponemos, creencia: porque ésta se expresa en acción. Entonces, a diferencia lo que cree la derecha- no se puede vivir sin una ideología: porque necesitamos una idea de realidad común, y por otra parte esta realidad común no existe porque creamos que exista, sino porque la construimos con acciones, hechos y en definitiva: hábitos.

Me temo que de no aspirar a esto, la cultura que inventemos en este coronamomento corre el riesgo de que, al igual que los libros del estallido y las bicicletas estacionarias de la cuarentana, se convierta en una serie de anécdotas obsoletas.
