This study aimed to explore EMTs' experiences of the challenges of prehospital care delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in March-July 2020 using conventional content analysis approach. Fifteen EMTs were purposively selected from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Center in Qom, Iran. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were conducted until data saturation was reached. Results: EMTs' experiences of the challenges of prehospital care delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic were classified into three main categories including "restless society", "difficult care delivery conditions", and "unprepared organization". The emergent subcategories were "need for information", "limited perception of the COVID-19 risk", "obsessive use of disinfectants", "fear over the transmission of COVID-19 to self and others", "burnout due to heavy workload", "altered communication with hospital staff", "ethical conflicts", "lack of a definite treatment plan", "lack of protective equipment", "staff shortage due to the affliction of EMTs by COVID-19", and "inadequate support by authorities". Conclusion: During COVID-19 pandemics, EMTs face many challenges including emotional and occupational stress, social strains, risk of affliction by infections, heavy workload, and ethical conflicts and hence, experience difficulties in quality care delivery. Developing appropriate strategies, guidelines, and policies are needed to effectively manage these challenges and improve the quality of prehospital care delivery in COVID-19 epidemic.

BACKGROUND Health care systems should pay attention to their human resources' retention to deliver health care services and maintain their organizational values. This issue becomes more significant when we consider the human and financial limitations in place. METHOD Data were analyzed using conventional qualitative content analysis based on the model developed by Elo & Kyngäs. Forty-two managers and nurses were selected by purposive sampling. Data were obtained through 45 semi-structured interviews until data saturation was reached. RESULTS The data analysis resulted in four main categories and seventeen subcategories. The main categories included dignity and respect, ethics and spirituality, empathy, and flourishing. The main theme extracted was "maternal management". CONCLUSION The present study proposes "maternal management" as a strategy to increase the retention of nurses. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Maternal management is a combination of management knowledge and empathy when dealing with the staff's problems. By creating an amiable and empathetic environment, maternal management motivates and encourages the staff. In the face of financial and human resources shortage, what helps retain the staff is a friendly atmosphere and mutual understanding between them and the nursing manager.

Performance checklists had to be filled by the nurses in experiment group during central venous pressure (CVP) measurement procedure. Knowledge and the nurses about standards of CVP measurement and their satisfaction were evaluated in both groups by a researcher‐made questionnaire. The data were analysed using the SPSS software.ResultsIn the experiment group, the level of knowledge significantly increased after the intervention (p = .001) and the majority of nurses (85.7%) had a high level of satisfaction. Also, there was a significant difference between mean knowledge scores of the two groups after the intervention (p = .006).ConclusionThis showed that applying performance checklists can influence nurses' knowledge and should conside...

This study aimed to examine the effect of open visiting hours on sleep quality, anxiety, and satisfac-tion of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Background. The importance of visiting patients after CABG has been emphasized in various studies, but there is insufficient evidence to confirm whether restricted /open visits may have more positive or negative effects than each other. Method. In this clinical trial study, 60 post-CABG patients, admitted to Shahid Rajaei Cardiovascular, Medical and Research center, were randomly selected and divided into experimental (n=30) and control group (n=30). Patients in experimental group received an open visiting schedule (free visiting) and those in control group experienced a regular visiting schedule (restricted visiting). Anxiety was measured on the second and fourth days of hospitalization by the Spielberger Anxiety Inventory (STAI), sleep quality was measured by Richard Campbell and satisfaction was assessed through researcher-made questionnaire on the fourth day of hospitalization. Data were analyzed using independent t-test in SPSS-20 software. Findings. There was a statistically significant difference between control and experimental groups in terms of anxiety mean score (43.97±6.76 against 35.90±4.31, respectively) (p≤0.0001). There was also a statisti-cally significant difference between control and experimental groups in terms of mean score of patient sat-isfaction (46.13±7.15 vs 32.23±4.67, respectively) (p≤0.0001). A statistically significant difference was found between control and experimental groups in terms of sleep quality mean score (2.33±0.8 vs 3.33±0.75, respectively) (p≤0.0001). Conclusion. Open visiting can reduces anxiety, and improves sleep quality and patients' satisfaction after CABG. Keywords: Open Visiting Schedule, Restricted Visiting Schedule, Anxiety, Patient Satisfaction, Sleep Quality, Coronary artery bypass graft surgery
