Dr. Hatem BELGUITH brings in more than 27 years of experience in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. My experience and career have provided me with excellent knowledge of Biochemistry and molecular Biology teaching and a great deal of independent research, self-motivation, requiring initiative, Quality Assurance and Accreditation, Curriculum design and a wide range of relevant skills, required of an effective team member.
In the field of higher education, he served as a teacher and a researcher in the Bizerte Sciences College, King Saoud University and King Faisal University, Higher Education Quality Expert, Manager of the Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation Office at the King Faisal University college overseeing, the application of the NCAAA standards on the academic programs. Chairman of the Curriculum and Study Plan Committee supervising the design and the implementation of new programs. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from El-Manar University, Tunisia (2001). He has published over forty papers and book chapters on Protein Purification and Molecular Characterization.

In this study, we report a rapid molecular method to amplify a partial sequence of the lipase class 3 family designated BnLIP3gene of Brassica napus L. in order to follow its expression and analyze its role during seed germination. Therefore, we conceived PCR homologous primers to amplify the active site encoding region of the BnLIP3 family genes. Subsequently, to sequence determination of the 582 bp fragment, we deduced BnLIP3 specific primers for a nested RT-PCR application. The deduced 194 amino acid sequence (Genbank 1160264) was found to share 85% of identity with lipase from Arabidopsis thalianaclass 3 family. The GxSxG consensus motif near the catalytic triad at the active serine site was also identified. The peptidic sequence showed little homology with mammalian and microbial lipases. Nous avons utilise les cotyledons excises comme modele d'etude afin d'eliminer toute influence hormonale ou autre provenant de l'embryon. Nous avons alors compare l'evolution des lipides de reserve et de l'activite lipasique des cotyledons excises mis en culture en presence et en absence d'acide gibberellique (GA3), a ceux des graines entieres mises a germer dans un milieu de culture supplemente ou non en acide gibberellique. Les resultats obtenus par Chromatographie en Phase Gazeuse (CPG), montrent que la degradation des lipides de reserve des cotyledons excises traites par GA3 est semblable a la lipolyse observee dans le cas d'une germination physiologique. Cloning, sequence analysis and expression pattern of mouse desmocollin 2 (DSC2), a cadherin-like adhesion molecule

Desmocollins are cadherin-like adhesion molecules of desmosomes. We have determined the full cDNA... more Desmocollins are cadherin-like adhesion molecules of desmosomes. We have determined the full cDNA sequence of a murine desmocollin, the homologue of human and bovine type 2 desmocollins (DSC2), and studied its tissue distribution and expression in stratified epithelia. An 8.5 day mouse embryo cDNA library was screened yielding overlapping clones which encoded the mouse DSC2. This gene has an open reading frame of 2710 base pairs (bp) encoding a polypeptide of 902 amino acids (aa). The polypeptide comprises a signal peptide, a precursor peptide, and a mature protein of 766 aa having an extracellular domain of 549 aa, a single transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic domain of 184 aa. Like other desmocollins, murine DSC2 has two products, Dsc2a and Dsc2b, produced by alternative splicing of a 46 bp exon which encodes 11 COOH-terminal aa followed by an in-frame stop codon. Inclusion of this exon forms Dsc2b which is 54 aa shorter than Dsc2a. Mouse Dsc2a shows 75.7% amino acid identity to human and 63.3% identity to bovine Dsc2a. The mouse desmocollin is also homologous to the cadherins; 32.2% to the most closely related typical cadherin, human N-cadherin. DSC2 is ubiquitously expressed in epithelial tissues and the heart of adult mice and from the blastocyst stage of development. In situ hybridization shows that the gene is most strongly expressed suprabasally in stratified epithelia, similar to the expression of bovine DSC2.

In the following study, we investigate the effects of static magnetic field (SMF) (128 mT, 1 h/da... more In the following study, we investigate the effects of static magnetic field (SMF) (128 mT, 1 h/day during 5 or 15 consecutive days) on anthropometric parameters, glucose and lipid metabolism in rats. Exposure to SMF during 5 days induced a decrease (-8%, p < 0.05) in relative liver weight and serum insulin concentration (-56%, p < 0.001), while blood glucose level was increased (+10%, p < 0.001). By contrast, the same treatment failed to alter body weight, relative kidney weight and levels of lactate, cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids. Exposure to SMF during 15 days induced a decrease (-15 %, p < 0.001) in body weight, liver weight (-15 %, p < 0.05), insulin concentration (-63%, p < 0.001), plasmatic lactate level (-55%, p < 0.05) and increased glucose (+24%, p < 0.001), cholesterol (+30%, p < 0.01,) and phospholipids levels (+58%, p < 0.001), whereas, triglycerides decreased (-28%, p < 0.001).
