In order to investigate the role of national culture, it is fundamental to first analyse the communication styles and then identify how these are related to each other. With a purpose to identify differences (or similarities) in communication styles across selected countries, a factor analysis was conducted, combined with an ANOVA test. Based on a sample from 10 different cultures: Germany

Many studies show that economically active females have an important role reducing poverty by assuring welfare of the households. Female participation in the labour market is also important for women's relative economic and social status compared to men and for their economic empowerment (Patimo et al, 2015). The aim of this research is to investigate the determinants which have influence over female participation in the labour market, in the context of the traditional literature and studies in this area, but also to add a new approach by including the effect of the overall cultural context on a woman's decision whether to supply her labour. The latter is a major contribution of the paper to the current knowledge. The methodology is based on previous research by Contreras and Plaza (2010). Moreover, a comparative perspective is added by considering countries in th...

Rosen defines academic writing as an “informed, logical, clear, well structured, and based on evidence” (Rosen, 2009) prose style which serves to describe, understand, and further investigate the world around us. Academic writing rests upon common standards of logic and clarity which enable writers to enter into a conversation through their writing. Developing effective writing skills for academic purposes is a crucial aspect of higher education. These skills are indispensable for the students since they affect their overall academic success, but also their life outside the university. The present paper deals with the challenges of developing effective writing skills for academic purposes in the Macedonian language in students in the Republic of North Macedonia. It presents a part of the findings of a five-year research conducted at the higher education institution University American College Skopje (UACS). The aim of the research is to explore the gap between the expecte...

We use available information to regress: i) expected monthly net earnings after university graduation, ii) expected monthly net earnings with only high school diploma, iii) expected monthly net university earnings 10 years after graduation and iv) expected monthly net high school earnings 10 years after obtaining a high school degree, on a set of variables which includes: characteristics of the individual, socio-economic background, field of study, year of enrolment (junior or senior students), academic performance, sources of information for future earnings and country of future employment, perceived employability and costs of studies. Our findings show that expected university earnings are significantly correlated with father’s education,...

Previous research elsewhere has shown that salary expectation is a major determinant that influences schooling decisions (Williams and Gordon, 1981; Betts, 1996; Wolter and Zbinden, 2001). Given that the main pathway to developing the human capital of an individual is schooling, learning about the factors that affect an individual's decision whether to acquire more education can contribute towards better educational policy in any given country. We employ a similar empirical approach as the one used by Brunello et al. (2001, 2004). We use all available information to regress: i) expected future earnings right after graduation from university and ii) expected future earnings 10 years after graduation from university, on a set of variables which include: the characteristics of the individual, their socio-economic background, the chosen field of stud...
