Reclaimed water has been used for landscape and agricultural irrigation all over the world and these practices have been documented as an effective method to use water resources wisely and efficiently. To check the effect of recycled water in floriculture different plants were used including umbrella plant (Cyperus alternifolius), dracaena (Cordyline terminalis) and euonymus (Euonymus japonicas). The characteristics of wastewater used for irrigation showed an obvious variation in the mineral content of the sewage water and recycled water. Both types of water presented high values of EC. Plant growth parameters were studied to determine the effect of water treatments on plants. Results showed that sewage water had superior effect on plant growth and mineral uptake in all plants species used in this experiment. Recycled wate...
The role of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria for growth and rooting in Rosa damascena Mill. c... more The role of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria for growth and rooting in Rosa damascena Mill. cuttings was evaluated in this study. Fifteen distinctive and fast growing rhizobacterial colonies (strains) were chosen to inoculate the Rosa cuttings by dipping in them. Growth parameters like shoot length, new shoot fresh weight, new shoot dry weight, root length, root fresh weight and root dry weight showed highly significant results while mortality percentage of cutting was non-significant. Results of the pot experiments revealed that most of the isolates showed growth promoting activities in Rosa cuttings except the isolates B5 which was proved to be growth limiting strain as it gave 20‒40% less result for all parameters. The most prominent results were produced by isolated strains F6 (Pseudomonas fluorescens), LSI19 (Rhizobium leguminosarum) and LC4 (Vibrios vulnificus). Isolate LSI19 showed maximum shoot length, new shoot fresh and dry weights with an increase (over un-inoculated ...
Dahlia is a beautiful flowering plant grown for cut flower production and for garden decoration b... more Dahlia is a beautiful flowering plant grown for cut flower production and for garden decoration but its growth is restricted due to limited supply of micro and macro nutrients in the soil. To get quality flowers, nutrient optimization is required and there is a need of estimation of its growth pattern, consumption of nutrients and relative effectiveness of different nutrient levels on its health and vigor. The present study was performed to optimize doses of micro and macro nutrients on growth and flowering of dahlia. The results indicated that micronutrient concentration of 7.5 mlL and macronutrient concentration of 6 ml L proved best-1-1 with the maximum values for plant height, number of leaves, number of side shoots, leaf area, number of tubers per plant, flower diameter and least days to flower emergence of dahlia. The other treatments although exhibited better response than control treatment but their effect on growth were lesser than T. 15

Present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of various growing substrates on growth and development of miniature rose cultivar “Baby Boomer”. Four different growing substrates with variable composition and combinations with peat, farm yard manure, silt, leaf mold and their combinations with each other were compared using garden soil as a control. There were 4 treatments in the experiment and each treatment was consisting of 10 plants and these plants in pots were arranged according to completely randomized design (CRD) which was replicated thrice. Data regarding different growth attributes including plant height, number of leaves per plant, number and length of branches per plant and flowering attributes included number of flowers per plant, diameter of flowers, fresh and dry weight of flowers were recorded and analyzed statistically by using Fisher’s analysis of variance techniq...

The present research work aimed to explore the ideal date of pruning which produce plants with excellent growth and flowering characteristics of Rosa centifolia during winter months where most scented flowers are disappear and marketing is lucrative. Pruning experiment was carried out on most important rose flower specie Rosa centifolia at Faisalabad during 2010-2012. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five different pruning dates during winter months i.e. second week of December, end of December, second week of January, end of January and second week of February. Plants that were pruned during the end of December dominate all growth parameters (plant height, number and length of branches, days to first bud emergence and number of buds plant -1 ) and flowering characteristics (number, diameter and weight of flowers) that were studied in this experiment. Overall plant growth was also the best in plants when pruned at the end of December. It seems all

The present study was designed to investigate the performance of Gazania harlequin grown under different salinity levels (25, 50, 75 and 100 mgl-1 of NaCl). The experiment was laid out in the completely randomized design (CRD) with four replications. Microscopic studies for root and stem anatomical attributes showed that salinity plays an important role in growth inhibition of plants. Xylem and phloem areas of root and stem were observed in decreasing trend under salt stress condition and the cortex also. While minimum cortex and epidermis area was observed in plants treated with 100 mgl-1. The study revealed that control (T0) exhibited better results as compared to other treatments under saline conditions. Visual observations showed that the reduction of water uptake by the plants under high saline condition created osmotic conditions and ion toxicity which results in smaller cell size and cell injury.

A total of 10 treatments were used where each treatment, consisting of 9 plants, was replicated 3 times. The results associated with plant growth parameters indicated that the maximum values for plant height, number of side shoots per plant, number of tubers per plant, flower diameter, and least days to flower emergence were observed in media containing coconut coir; the maximum corm weight per plant, however, was found in T-8, where rice hull was added to silt. The number of flowers per plant was increased in T-9, where silt, coconut coir, dust, sewage sludge, spent mushroom compost, and rice hull were used together in equal proportions. The media containing sewage sludge alone and in combination with silt showed minimum results for these parameters. Sewage sludge, with its higher pH, produced the least results for all plant ...

In this study, different treatment combinations were assessed to overcome the mechanical resistance of the pericarp and enhance germination of rose seeds obtained from hybridization among hybrids roses. Among the three treatments, 30 days warm temperature followed by 60 days cold stratification and 30% sulphuric acid treatment for 10 minutes proved more effective in getting higher seed germination (18.54 ...
