A survey of the present status in relation with e-Government will cover the leading countries (and not only) in ICT-based developments in these sectors. The major implemented solutions will be outlined regarding their actual implementation and administration. Key aspects will be outlined for Electronic Healthcare Record Systems as core systems in present or future national or regional health programs.

A survey of the present status in relation with e-Government covers the leading countries (and not only) in ICT-based developments in these sectors. The authors present the most important solutions regarding the implementation and administration of a wide range of applications. Certain issues concerning EHR (Electronic Healthcare Record Systems), pharmacy and electronic prescription systems, patient administration and financial systems, intensive care unit systems, laboratory information systems, homecare and telecare applications, radiology information systems, and bioinformatics are outlined. Up and running ICT projects according to European Commission policies for health, ageing well, inclusion, and governance (FP7) are also presented.

We mention that the Moodle platform, version 3.2 is dedicated to extramural and distance learning. It supports various gamification elements such as avatars, badges, leaderboard, levels, displaying quiz results or progress bars. The ranking block plugin was introduced and configured to be available for procedural programming course activities, at the beginning of the first semester of 2016, which starts in October. It displays a course leaderboard visible to all users as a way of obtaining recognition from other users. It is based on points instead of badges and it can monitor included activities based on accumulated points. The experiment involved first year bachelor students in computer science (32 students, extramural education) from UVAB University (www.ub.ro) who are using the Moodle platform i...

In order to dampen noise and to improve the quality of the working environment, the phenomenon of pressure wave propagation must be studied. The paper analyzes the unidirectional pressure waves produced by a pneumatic machine operating at a constant speed. The hyperbolic equations with non-linear derivatives were studied using the method of finite difference and an original program was created to obtain the visualisation of the speed and pressure oscillations along the pipeline. The graphical representations of the oscillation speed and the pressure wave at different sections along the pipe have led to interesting conclusions that could be used to develop methodologies and systems for attenuating the pressure pulsation and therefore the noise.

Combining this with a lower rate of activities completion (not shown here) for the second semester, it is empirically proved that the introduction of the ranking block did not have the assumed motivational effect for students. A good explanation could be the fact that the top 4 students were at the end of semester far ahead from the others, which, most probably weakened the group motivation.

Benefits and disadvantages of using gamification in classroom are both discussed to offer a clearer view on the impact of using gamification within learning process. Exploratory study –cases are provided to investigate the relation between motivation and engagement of the students and gamification in training. Following this idea, a survey was conducted to assess how students' behavior and motivation is affected by introducing a single, specific gamification element during a semester learning process. To stimulate competition among students, a ranking type plugin was introduced within the university learning management system used for extramural education. The results prove that motivation decreases by comparison to the previous semester.

On the one hand, this study relies on our previous experience in GIS software engineering; on the other hand, it reflects the features and particularities of the projects we conducted within the bachelor and master’s theses of our students. Further comments are being made, regarding the transformation of traditional desktop applications to gain contextual recommendation functionalities as well as their reengineering towards mobility. We furthermore intend to determine whether the integration of Virtual and Mixed Reality in this typology of applications is feasible and to anticipate the usefulness for communities of users grouped either by their geographical location or by their common interests.
