The Edina Bakatue festival is one of the traditional festivals celebrated in Ghana by the people ... more The Edina Bakatue festival is one of the traditional festivals celebrated in Ghana by the people of Elmina in the Central Region. The celebration of this festival serves as an avenue for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people. For this celebration, props feature prominently. Although there is a plethora of studies on festivals in Ghana, there is a dearth of research on the significance of prop elements in traditional Ghanaian festivals. Engaging a qualitative approach to research, employing the purposive sampling technique to select twelve (12) participants, and relying on multiple data collection instruments (observation, interviews, and photographs), this study sought to explore the significance of prop elements in the celebration of the Edina Bakatue festival. Scenic design in theatre, film and television are practically similar in approach and shares the same qualities. The major difference is the spaces in which the scenic designs are constructed and mounted in theatre, film and TV for performance. Spaces in theatre includes the proscenium, thrust, arena, found or created spaces. In contrast, spaces in film includes location or studio whereas spaces in tv comprises of studio. Therefore, to create the scenery, in theatre the scenic designer has to consider the sightlines of the audience whilst the designer in film and TV must consider what camera’s lens sees. Aboakyir festival is considered as one of the major festivals in Ghana, celebrated by the people ... more Aboakyir festival is considered as one of the major festivals in Ghana, celebrated by the people of Effutus, Winneba. The festival is viewed as aesthetically driven with its stunning and superlative spectacle. Considering the several art forms used in the celebration, it can be likened to what some philosophers consider in describing the beauty of an object in the aesthetic scholarship. The study explores some aesthetic aspects of the festival through the visual and performance arts. Employing the observation method, the research gathered data through documentation and interviews. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting interviewees to substantiate my findings. The paper discloses that Aboakyir festival has some aesthetic perceptions that are exposed through body painting, body art, costumes and performance of libation in its celebration. This paper proposes an alternative way in redesigning stage sets for a theatrical performance that can be viewed on television. It employs the creation of computer-simulated scenery which is made possible with computer-aided design (CAD) application. Although, virtual sets is popular in the western world, it has received less attention in Ghana. The paper employs a qualitative approach which is descriptive and explanatory in nature. Data collected enable to analyse the virtual set created. It is noted that virtual sets add another form of creating illusionistic scenery, aesthetics with details and accuracy.
