People from all different backgrounds and ages, from young to old, have joined together to be a part of this multi-faceted community. It has dynamically changed many aspects of the lives and culture of people across the world, providing endless opportunities for research. Specifically, the presence of memorials on Facebook has had a significant impact on contemporary attitudes toward death and the ways in which people grieve and mourn. Through looking at theories of healthy grief and mourning we can see how Facebook memorials are impacting modern grief in both healthy and unhealthy ways. Facebook memorials have shifted grieving and mourning from the private to the communal, challenging the concept of the sequestration of death in modern times and serving as a method of continuing bonds with the deceased. With maintaining continuing bonds in a social setting comes the inevitable aspect of socially constructed grief to consider as well. Upon looking at patterns of Facebook memorials and mourning online as a whole, we can attempt a better understanding how shifts in modernity are affecting the sociocultural responses to death and dying.
