Kevin M Connor
Kevin Connor (also known as Malik) is a native of Los Angeles, California where he graduated from Fairfax High School and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, in 1979. Upon graduation, Mr. Connor worked in a family owned business then began work as an electrical draftsman and technical clerk with Hayakawa Associates Consulting Engineers in Beverly Hills, California, where he worked on numerous projects, most notably the Disney Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida and the Los Angeles Metro Rail Project. Mr. Connor later enrolled in UCLA’s Graduate School of Education, completing a Teacher Education Program in 1986, as well as coursework in a Masters of Education degree, with a concentration in Special Education. In 1986, Mr. Connor began teaching in the Lynwood Unified School District where he served as a classroom instructor in bilingual education, Gifted and Talented instruction, and as a Math Enrichment Coach as well as a performing arts instructor and track and field coach. Mr. Connor continued his professional growth and education requirements at California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA) and graduated from the Math Technology Leadership Academy of the California Technology Project in August 1993.Mr. Connor has been a member of numerous student, civic and community service organizations over the past 30 years such as the Afrikan Education Project at UCLA (founding director), NOMMO, UCLA Graduate Students Association, UCLA Community Programs Office, Lynwood Teachers Association (LTA), California Teachers Association (CTA), National Education Association (NEA), California Association for the Gifted (CAG), California Association of Middle Schools, National Teachers Association (NTA), California Federation of Teachers (CFT), United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA), UCLA Alumni Association, UCLA Black Alumni Network, the E-Learning Guild, and the Math Technology Leadership Academy.He worked as the Program Manager at Educating Young Minds, Inc a non-profit learning center in Los Angeles, California from 2008-2017. He worked at the Los Angeles Job Corps Center from 2017 to 2024 and is currently the Project Director with SHAPE at UCLA.
