In the last couple of decades, there have been several works reported in the literature that attempt to tackle the indoor localization problem. However, most of this work is focused solely on two-dimensional (2D) localization, while very few papers consider three dimensions (3D). There is also a noticeable lack of survey papers focusing on 3D indoor localization; hence, in this paper, we aim to carry out a survey and provide a detailed critical review of the current state of the art concerning 3D indoor localization including geometric approaches such as angle of arrival (AoA), time of arrival (ToA), time difference of arrival (TDoA), fingerprinting approaches based on Received Signal Strength (RSS), Channel State Information (CSI), Magnetic Field (MF) and Fine Time Measureme...

During overloads in islanded networks, the load curtailment applied to interruptible loads is often the only solution to keep them in operation. The loads participating in load shedding schemes experience minimal discomfort. This work proposes an approach to the load shedding schemes that can be employed in islanding distribution networks to guarantee the correct electrical system operation. This new proposed methodology includes the average and the priority shedding schemes and is based on a corrective load shedding optimizer (CLSO) algorithm. The CLSO evaluates and compares the network dynamic responses with the network frequency and voltage stability criteria for each distributed generation to optimize the amount of load shedding requirements. This work presents an in-depth investigation of the operation and robustness of the proposed method under various case studies on a typical IEEE distribution network. The results are then analysed and discussed.

It is envisioned that this framework will become reference point for knowledge exchange which will bring the research community even closer and potentially enhance collaboration towards more effective and efficient creation of indoor positioning-related knowledge and innovation. Specifically, this platform facilitates the collection of sensor data useful for indoor positioning experimentation, the development of novel, self-learning, indoor positioning algorithms, as well as the enhancement and testing of existing ones and the dissemination and sharing of the proposed algorithms along with their configuration, the data used, and with their results.

The paper presents two possible applications of RT tools in that context. The first is the train/construction of fingerprints databases in order to complement or/and replace laborious measurement campaigns. The second application is the modeling of location-dependent parameters in order to feed localization techniques. These two applications are investigated and validated using three RT tools applied on a synthetic indoor environment ...

In addition to the fact that RSS data collection might be a tedious and time-consuming process, the measured radiomap accuracy and applicability is subject to potential changes in the wireless environment. Therefore, RT becomes a very suitable and efficient solution to tackle this ...

In this deliverable current evolutions of ray-tracing tools in order to fulfill the new needs coming from the radio positioning community are addressed. First investigations on introduction of time-variation related to human activity are presented. Then an innovation that aims to locally correct the prediction with the insertion of measurement data is introduced. Lastly, a band-divided UWB ray-tracing ...

It examines advances in information systems development in general, and their impact on the development of new methods, tools and management. The book draws on selected invited papers from the 26th International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD) held in Larnaca, Cyprus, September 6 - 8, 2017. The revised and expanded papers present research that focuses on methods, tools and management in information systems development. These issues are significant as they provide the basis for organizations to identify new markets, support innovative technology deployment, and enable mobile applications to detect, sense, interpret and respond to the environment.

Undoubtedly this requires a more active and healthier status so that the risk of health and wellbeing problems, including cognitive decline is minimized. A combination of different factors such as proactive lifestyle changes, physical and cognitive exercise, and social interaction may play an important role for achieving the aforementioned goal; however, compiling a holistic masterplan that sets specific measurable objectives for achieving these factors requires not only the senior citizen’s active engagement but also the collaboration of a diverse set of healthcare specialists as well as the support of the citizen’s family and close friends. Furthermore, the coordination of this diverse group of people, the real-time monitoring of th...
