The contribution of electroacoustic music in the Costa Rican sphere is established as a movement of rupture, in its unofficial aesthetic sense. A creative rupture not only an actor, but also a recipient of a paradigm shift in creation, the elaboration of information and the acquisition of knowledge through technological instruments in music; that establishes human actors and artifacts that are linked through tools based on information and communication technologies (ICT) and constitute a network system.
Palabras clave: ciudad, composición, escucha, paisaje sonoro urbano.
The city as a source of sounds for the sound creation Abstract The soundscape pioneers treated the sounds of the city with caution, emphasizing in their work their commitment to an auditory conscience within the city. Several decades have passed since this approach and it seems convenient to review some of the concepts initially proposed by these pioneers to assess an artistic methodology that listens to the city in a more meaningful way that is closer to the field of sound creation.
Thesis Chapters by Otto Castro

The main objective of this research is to examine a compositional process that uses sounds coming from the city as raw material for the elaboration of acousmatic works. In particular, this study focuses on the historic center of the city of Morelia and some sites in Mexico City. As a final result of this investigation, 3 acousmatic works are composed: Olinda, Ersilia and Argia.
This work, in its theoretical part is supported by guiding themes such as the city, the sound landscape and the sound walk. It draws on visions of the city from city planners Kevin Lynch and Lewis Mumfort, who approach the city from a time and social link factor. It also nourishes tangentially the concepts of space, place and non-place, proposed by the French anthropologist Marc Augé and Henri Lefebvre with the intention of understanding the variety of areas that characterize some cities today. The sound landscape is also approached from three pioneers in this field: Murray Schafer, Hildegard Westerkamp and Barry Truax.
On the other hand, in order to understand the process of apprehension of the captured sound material, Pierre Schaeffer's listening modes are used as a methodological reference. The sound walk is also used as a sound ethnography technique through which sound signs are collected, interpreted and selected to carry out a narrative construction based on a large sound chain.
Some questions that motivated this investigation were: How to study the city to extract its sound signs and use them in the acousmatic composition? Is it possible to understand the urban sound framework from specific listening attitudes, which can be used for compositional purposes / creative ?, How to create acousmatic works by sound signs found or imagined and built starting from the city as a reference?
This work aims to categorize recorded sounds, with the aim of finding relationships between these sound materials. Hierarchies and functions are established between these registers that allow the development of compositional strategies, using the recorded material of the urban sounds and another generated from the gestures of these registers. The aim is to generate new sound materials different from those of their origin but linked to it, using different tools and technological procedures for the creation of acousmatic works.
