AP Pierce
I am an advanced doctoral candidate in Feminist Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara specializing in digital media studies, feminist and queer theory, affect studies, and Marxist feminisms.
Specifically, I am interested in the resistive circulation of unproductive aesthetics in digital space—whether that be in videos, discourse, memes, art, or “shitposts”. I will defend my dissertation, “Disruptive Diffusion: Examining Generative AI through Materiality, Anxiety, and Queer Futurity” in June 2024.
My recent work can be found in Routledge’s Identities and Intimacies on Social Media, examining bimbos on TikTok, and in two forthcoming anthologies: a co-authored chapter in Duke University Press’s Witch Studies Reader addressing the neoliberalization of the witch; and a chapter on AI-generated art and foundational feminist theory in Routledge’s textbook, Introduction to Feminist Studies: Notes from the field.
