This words by architectural critic William Niño introduced this indispensable book for anyone seeking to explore the history and architecture of this city of contrasts. Carefully designed, the complete guide shows the complexity of 448 years old South American city, that forms a single unit with “El Avila” and the “central coast”, where different scales, geographies, architectural styles, natural and urban landscapes converge. The guide outlines the city’s history through its best architecture, ranging from a date close to 1600, through 2012. Research approaches each of the 364 buildings and urban spaces, through an architectural-historical lens, with informative texts and curious facts, complemented by plans, sections, and over 500 photographs and 302 architectural drawings. The book, includes the “History of Caracas trough its plans”; Caracas architecture and urban spaces described in 10 zones, from the valley to the sea (The founding grid, Nueva Caracas, From El Paraiso, The University City, Towards El Cementerio, South Entrance, Extension to the Northeast, South of the river, El Avila and Facing the sea); and “Caracas in the future”, visions of urban experts on the city for future actions in order to transform and improve the city. The guide includes a guide map, and an aerial photo of the city.
