Roderick L. Carey, PhD graduated from the doctoral program in Minority and Urban Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland College Park. Prior to coming to the University of Delaware, Roderick was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Urban Education. Prior to his graduate studies at the University of Maryland, Roderick was a high school English teacher in DC schools. He received his undergraduate degree (BA) in English and Secondary Education from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. He then earned a Masters of Education (Ed.M.) in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Currently, he works as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Urban Education at School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the coordinator of the Center for Urban Education's Summer Educator Forum, conducts research on the Heinz Endowment's Youth Organizing Initiative through the department of Psychology in Education, and serves as a co-facilitator for the Interracial Group Relations Research Advisory Panel through the Center for Race and Social Problems. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, he worked on numerous research teams including one that looked at interdisciplinary reading and writing for predominantly Black and Latino middle school students and another that investigated the role of culturally responsive pedagogy in the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA). In addition, he has taught masters and undergraduate level courses on equity and diversity in teaching, the social foundations of urban education broadly, and the history of Black and Latino education in the United States. Roderick conducts professional learning experiences for teachers, youth workers, and camp counselors. He serves or has served as a consultant to East Ed Resource Collaborative, Georgetown Day School, the Park School of Baltimore, the Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching Diverse Students Initiative, and is a blogger for the Huffington Post and Faith Leaders for Community Change.
