As interculturality is opposed to multiculturality, a distinction between these two frames is pivotal to cast light upon linguistic colonialism practices and other forms of power-knowledge colonial matrix in some curriculum designs. Interculturality suggests interaction, respect, and recognition among cultures, while multiculturality involves the co-presence of several separated cultures, competing to hegemonize or control other cultures. Although, the former has much more acceptance, the decolonial critique to interculturality might offer a problematization of a widely restrictive view of mainstream interculturality. With awareness of these counterforces, this article discusses how interculturality can be used to decolonize the only English curriculum to give other senses to the bilingual curriculum.

This small- scale narrative study emerged from the constant and collaborative reflection upon their long years of experience advising primary and secondary schools’ mentees, and upon the different situations mentors had to experience while performing their job. Findings revealed that despite having worked in two allegedly different settings, both mentors faced similar issues regarding their vision of education, their view on language and their own identity as teachers, which affected their guidance. They also found that the feedback they provided their mentees perpetuated or contradicted dominant visions where inclusion and diversity were neutralized.

This article examines the ways in which EFL teachers problematize their role in functionally diverse scenarios while exposing their efforts to improve the exercise of their profession in FD classrooms. By applying positioning theory (Harré, 2001), we analyzed the narratives of four English language teachers at a high school in Bogotá, Colombia. Data obtained from autobiographical narrative essays revealed three main findings: first, English language teachers positioned themselves as novice or apprentice in FD contexts; second, they struggled with their unpreparedness as they learned to work with FD students; and finally, they positioned themselves as agents of change to overcome difficulties and embrace an inclusive pedagogy. This study contributes to the field by raising awareness of real teaching problems and school situations that EFL teachers fac...

It explores how English teachers that favor the use of new information and communication technologies (ICT) and VLEs have developed skills to design, monitor and assess teaching-learning activities, promoting an area of professional development focused on the self-transformation and the creation of new learning opportunities (Lee, M.-H., & Tsai, C.-C., 2010, Coppola, N., Hiltz, S., & Rotter, N. 2002). The emphasis on professional development recognizes technology as an important engaging practice that helps teachers to create work strategies, follow up and monitor learning (Paulson, K. 2002) while they re-signify the roles of teachers in face to face and virtual interaction (Savin, 2003, Lee & Tsai, 2010; Major, 2010; Natriello, 2005, Leyva, 2010).

This B.A. program declares an interdisciplinary curriculum. Through a model of mixed action research, supported on the theory of curriculum evaluation (Palos, 2000; Posner, 2004; Martinello y Cook, 2000), the diagnosis reveals a lack of articulation between theory and practice; a breakup between what is declared in the official curriculum towards the interdisciplinary relationships between fields of training and what happens in practice. Thematic units were developed with the 5 E's instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) based on the constructivist approach to learning. This qualitative study collected data from 20 students at Atlántico University. The questionnaires used in the analysis of the 2 survey rounds rate Students’ responses in relation to learning of contents, methodology of the class and autonomy. Results based on the second round led to four major conclusions: (i). There is satisfaction with the use of the Flipped Classroom strategy, in terms of time management and freedom to prepare classes. (ii). Practical activities are more engaging to work collaboratively. (iii) Teachers have a subtle presence which provides more opportunities for students to negotiate control and participation. Dichotomous categories were established based on the analysis of the cultural component of the textbooks for the teaching of English. The corpus consisted of six textbooks produced by multinational publishers and used in Colombia during the years 2006-2018. Documentary analysis procedures were used to discuss emergent themed contents in relation to cultural components from a critical perspective that unveiled imperialism practices. Results showed that the textbook contents dealt with high levels of alienation burden, superficial cultural components and instrumentation to the submissive person who favors the dominant culture of English and does not offer possibilities to embrace interculturality in ELF teaching contexts.
