Over the years, this field of research has evolved into an effort to develop a curriculum related to multicultural ideas. In this context, the need arises to identify those cultural elements that have the greatest potential to contribute to the teaching and learning of mathematical knowledge. Precisely to refer to these cultural elements found in certain non-Western and non-Eurocentric cultural contexts, the term Ethnomathematical Potential has appeared in the literature of the last decade, but without an explicit definition. The aim of this article is to propose an explicit conceptual definition of ethnomathematical potential, based on a series of examples presented in ethnomathematical published research. It is concluded that the Ethnomathematic Potential of a cultural sign, is its potential value to use, analyze, teach or learn certain mathematical knowledge from the perspective of some specific culture, and to eventually be included in formal pedagogical practices for the teaching of that mathematical knowledge.

Therefore, it is considered relevant to study the relationships between the ability to algorithmize, mathematical thinking, algorithmic thinking and computational thinking. However, multiple definitions of computational thinking do not explicitly incorporate algorithmic thinking or emphasize its mathematical dimension. The proposition raised in this scientific essay is that there are very important relationships, sometimes implicit, between the concepts of algorithmization, mathematical thinking, algorithmic thinking and computational thinking. And the aim is to identify the relationships between these concepts, and thereby strengthen the scientific literature that seeks to address them in an integrated manner. It is concluded that algorithmic thinking is a fundamental part of computational thinking, but it is also a type of mathematical thinking; that the ability to algorithmize is basic in mathematics and is fundamental in algorithmic and computational thinking; and that computational thinking provides important aids in exploring and discovering mathematics.

This approach includes the mathematical, the playful, the artistic and the computational dimensions. It is argued that these four dimensions are not disjointed or dissociated despite general rejection by traditional academic communities and art critics communities. Also, some significant collections of Computational Art or Computer-Generated Mathematical Art are mentioned. Four artistic creations based on Julia Sets are presented as examples using the CFDG language. Finally, an informal application of the approach was carried out and artistic production of students are presented and discussed.

This article presents the design, educative characteristics and possibilities of a modular and didactic compiler for a Pascal-like programming minilanguage that is super-set of Niklaus Wirth's PL/0. The main feature is that it implements the compiling phases in such a way that the information delivered to each next one may be reflected as an XML document, which can be studied separately. It is also shown that its design is suitable for being included as learning tool into compiler design courses. It is possible to implement a compiler in a high-level language like Python.

Abstract: This article offers a closeup to the concept of zero as an invention or discovery of the Maya civilization compared to other important civilizations. The expectation is to identify the mayan numeral system and its arithmetic as essential elements in El Salvador's mathematics teaching. An analysis on the inclusion of this topic on study programs in the Central American region allows its recognition as an important element on cultural identity.

The concept of Ethnic Identity and Indigenous Identity is presented. It is argued that being indigenous or not is not dichotomous. Rather, there is a range of more or less indigenous situations. Then we proceed to describe a model of ethnic identity of a population and a concrete instrument to measure the degree of Ethnic Identity of the university student population. Finally, the results of the pilot study of a quantitative exploratory investigation are presented about the correlation that exists between ethnic identity and the presence of cultural practices with ethnomathematical potential that some university students possess.
This presentation shows interesting details discovered by chance about the implementation and execution of the algorithm for the construction of the fractal image known as Buddhabrot. It begins with the definition of the Mandelbrot set and the corresponding construction algorithm, then the basic algorithm for the construction of the Buddhabrot image that appears in the mathematical literature will be presented. Subsequently, the results of an initial implementation in Python language will be described that are apparently incorrect and that confused the author for several weeks and that led him to evaluate different hypotheses about the apparent failure, to finally illustrate the statistical distribution of values generated by the algorithm and the corresponding modification to be able to generate the expected images. The overall idea of this presentation is to emphasize the importance of statistical (even superficial) analysis of data and computer programming when the amount of data increases.

This correlational and mixed-method —quantitative and qualitative— research constitutes an approach to the cross-sectional characterization of the Algorithmic Thinking development in Mathematics and Statistics Bachelor students at central campus of University of El Salvador, in the period from 2018 to 2020. The quantitative part consists of a survey to measure the development level of Algorithmic Thinking from four groups of students (80 students in total) of the mentioned study programs, as the students increase their academic level according to the curriculum, specifically through the courses that require and are related to computer programming. A moderate correlation was found between this advance in the academic level and the development level of Algorithmic Thinking. In addition, no significant correlation was found between the development level of Algorithmic Thinking and the global grades of the students, nor their age, nor their gender. The qualitative part includes an in-depth study of the cognitive processes carried out by a group of students from the same study programs (14 students in total) during the resolution of mathematical problems whose solution is an algorithm. It was found that students develop Algorithmic Thinking very slowly and with many obstacles, especially in the process of analyzing problems. Much variation was also found in the development of this type of thinking among students. Some of them have developed it acceptably and others have developed it very little. The theoretical products of this work are: (a) the development of an operational definition of Algorithmic Thinking, (b) its corresponding generic evaluation rubric, (c) a specific rubric, and (d) a new expanded design of the Schoenfeld-like graphs.
