Prof. Emmanuel Adu
Prof Adu’s Profile:
Prof Emmanuel O. Adu is an inaugurated Professor of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies at the Faculty of Education, University of Fort Hare, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He is a seasoned educationist and administrator. As a towering figure in the educational fraternity, he has a stellar array of qualifications, which include a B.Ed. Honours in Economics and Political Science, an M.Ed. in Educational Management, and a doctorate in Teacher Education. He received these qualifications in 1994, 1997 and 2002 respectively.
Apart from being a former Dean in the Faculty of Education at the BA ISAGO University in Botswana, Professor Adu served as chairperson of the recruitment and appointment of the academic committee. Currently, he is the President of Global Education Network (GEN), and Acting Deputy Dean, Research and Internationalization, faculty of Education, University of Fort Hare, which allows him to work with different, types of post-graduate students, including international students across the continent.
His interest in education has seen him develop curricula that attracted international recognition and funding from the government of Botswana. As a registered and accredited trainer, he was a member of the panel assessing accreditation of courses/modules for universities. This enabled him to attend numerous international conferences, resulting in the acquisition of strong networking skills.
Among the countries that he has travelled to, South Africa, Thailand, Botswana, Kenya, Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, USA, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and China top the list. This has resulted in his acclimatization of different cultures as well as in the adaptation of the values of different citizens.
Prof Adu sustains a strong linkage to all masters and doctoral students in the African continent, resulting in high growth of student output and publications in the Faculty of Education. By giving public lectures, he has marketed the University of Fort Hare, giving it more limelight.
With administrative and lecturing experience spanning over 20 years in different African countries, Professor Adu has taught different education-related modules and has served in several management positions since 1999. He has a record of accomplishment of massive publications across 14 countries and research supervision of students at all levels. He has participated in the planning, development, and implementation of academic curricular. He belongs to editorial boards of reputable journals across the globe and is a reviewer of numerous journals. He has written a proposal for UNESCO on ICT in education for equity and equality in Africa. Currently, he is supervising two postdoctoral fellows specializing in science and ICT education, teacher education, and development.
Professor Adu has received many grants for overseas trips. He is a member of many professional associations in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) and beyond. He was a member of the executive committee of the South African Education Research Association (SAERA). Professor Adu has won the Vice Chancellor’s Senior Researcher Medal Awards for 2015 and 2017 for the Faculty of Education and the University of Fort Hare respectively. He is engaged in community service, having worked in collaboration with NGOs such as Millennium Development Goal (MDG), Education for Sustainable Development, and Education for All (EFA) projects. After collaborating with colleagues in transdisciplinary research, he showcased leadership skills that made the university appoint him as a mentor for all the emerging researchers in the faculty, between 2014 and 2017. This resulted in him supervising and publishing articles with them.
He is an assessor of promotion portfolios to the rank of Associate and Full professors and external examiners to universities in South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana. This affords him the privilege of knowing the research culture of these universities. Recently he is the leading editor of a book entitled "Fundamentals of Research in Social Sciences, Humanities and Science” to be published by Van Schaik Publishers by October 2021, the current Special Interest Group (SIG) Chair on Social Studies at Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) the USA and President of Global Education Network (GEN).
