Firstly, the number of VMD layers is determined according to the correlation coefficient, and the kurtosis of each intrinsic mode functions (IMF) is calculated. The IMF component with the largest kurtosis is selected as the best component according to the kurtosis maximum criterion. Then the multipoint kurtosis of the best component is calculated to determine the optimal fault period and the MOMEDA is carried out. Finally, do the envelope spectrum analysis. By analyzing the fault signals of the outer and inner rings of flexible thin-walled bearings, it shows that this method can extract the fault feature frequency of flexible thin-walled bearings accurately and effectively. At the same time, this method is compared with the method based on VMD and MED (Minimum Ent...

In an unprecedented move in 2017, the First Instance Family Court in Tangiers recognized the familial relationship connecting a father to his biological daughter and ordered him to pay child support, but the ruling was revoked at the appellate court. The appellate court also invalidated the lower court’s use of international conventions, explaining that the child is so foreign to her father that the possibility of their future marriage would not be overruled. After further appeal, the overruling of the appellate court was confirmed at the cassation level in September 29, 2020. The Tangiers First Instance Family Court allowed for DNA tests to be admitted into evidence in family law cases, a procedure that is usually avoided. The plaintiff was a mother who wanted to prove the paternity (bunuwwa) and lineage (nasab) of her daughter born out of wedlock. The case illustrates how, as medical science...

During the Arab uprisings of 2010 and 2011, Egyptians that participated in these uprisings frequently used the concept of dignity as a way to underscore their opposition to the Mubarak regime. Protesting against the indignity of the poverty, lack of freedom and social justice, the idea of karama gained salience in Egyptian cinema, popular literature, street art, music, social media and protest banners, slogans and literature. Based on interviews with participants in the 2011 protests and analysis of the art forms that emerged during protests, Zaynab El Bernoussi explores understandings of the concept of dignity, showing how protestors conceived of this concept in their organisation of protest and uprising, and their memories of karama in the aftermath of the protests, revisiting these claims in the years subsequent to the uprising.

Since the Free Officers’ coup of 1952 that overthrew the monarchy, the political system in Egypt became synonymous of authoritarian presidential leaders. In the wake of scandals regarding disqualification of presidential candidates, the re-election of President Abdelfatah El Sisi was inevitable and little change was, thus, expected. This electoral setting was revealing, however, of the aftermath of the so-called two revolutions in the post-Arab Spring era in which societal cleavages are increasingly more pronounced. The cleavages concern a polarization of the youth, the rural vs. urban populations divide, and fragmentation within inter- and intra- religious groups.

End-of-semester course grades were used as a coarse, institutionally mandated measure of academic success. Gender differences were observed. For female students, a learning orientation was related to academic success. However, female students’ academic success was also related to their reliance on specific decision-making styles (i.e., vigilance and hyper-vigilance). Male students’ academic success was not significantly related to any of the individual difference measures. These findings suggest that applications of CRP may benefit from the recognition of students’ preexisting dispositions and that such dispositions may differ between sexes. A discussion follows regarding how information regarding students’ preexisting...

The region of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has been a political challenge since the institution of Israel. For China, it makes sense to build political credentials by becoming an active player in the MENA. One of the features of the MENA is the predominance of Islam. One of the features of China is its ability to supply large and different market needs. These respective marking features of both regions constitute the opportunity of the Halal business: China can supply the needs of MENA’s Halal market, mostly the Gulf, and play a bigger role in the region. This article assesses how China has been treating its local Muslim communities, the Hui and the Uyghur, since the Reformers, examines systematically the Chinese state relation with local Muslims in political terms, and evaluates the signal such relation gives to Muslims in the world using relevant secondary data. The paper concludes that how China treats its Muslims matters to Muslim populations and can determine China’s political relation with the MENA and its share of the Halal business.

This study reviews the importance of the concept of dignity in philosophy and the social sciences, specifically pertaining to the development and postcolonial need for dignity and recognition, which the author terms ‘dignition.’ The central question here is how the conception of dignity has evolved between the two events and what the implications are for the consequent understanding of dignity.
