About us

We provide secondary care to people living in Berkshire who are experiencing physical and mental health problems. Secondary care means that our services are more specialised than those offered by a GP. A GP's care is called primary care. Our services are purchased on behalf of the population of Berkshire by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) of which there are seven in Berkshire (Bracknell and Ascot, Newbury and District, North and West Reading, Slough, South Reading Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead, Wokingham), the NHS National Commissioning Board Specialised Commissioning Board , other NHS organisations, Local Authorities, Schools and Colleges and individual patients. We are a provider of community based health services across Berkshire. Delivering care to people of all age groups aimed at helping them stay healthy and if unwell suffer the least disruption to their lives possible. Most secondary care services are based within the local community, so that people can receive treatment in an environment they're used to. Many people are supported in their own homes. This means that people can continue to lead active lives in the community while receiving the support they need for their mental health. We organise our services into six main local areas. • Newbury • Reading • Wokingham • Bracknell • Slough • Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead

  • Mari, one of our Ward Transformation Managers has been part of the NHS family for 20 years! 🥳 "I’m thrilled to share that I’ve reached a significant milestone in my career with the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 20 years of continuous service, plus an additional 4 years in practice! My journey began in 1999 when I joined Berkshire Healthcare through a recruitment project in Finland. Starting as a qualified staff nurse at Fair Mile Hospital in Oxfordshire, I faced numerous challenges adapting to a new culture, language, and work environment. Despite these hurdles, the core values of Berkshire Healthcare resonated deeply with me: empowering individuals, collaborating with families, minimizing the use of sedatives and psychotropic treatments, and leading with compassion. After a brief period at Prospect Park Hospital, I returned to Finland as my mother became unwell. However, I found myself missing the dynamic mental health care environment at Berkshire Healthcare. Driven by a desire to continue making a difference, I returned in 2004 as a mental health liaison nurse and overnight crisis worker. This role was a perfect fit for me, allowing me to utilize my dual qualifications (RGN/RMN) in an acute hospital setting. Later, I had the opportunity to set up and work in the older adults liaison at Royal Berkshire Hospital – the first in Berkshire at the time. This led me to Bracknell CMHT for older adults, where I started as a clinical lead and have spent the last 7.5 years as a service manager. Witnessing and contributing to the development of the service over the years has been incredibly rewarding. Reflecting on these experiences, I feel immense gratitude for all the colleagues I’ve met and the growth we’ve achieved together. The values and ethics at Berkshire Healthcare inspire many of us to stay committed and continuously strive to improve mental health and community health services. Thank you, Berkshire Healthcare, for the past 20 years of continuous service and the additional 4 years in practice." Thank you Mari, what an amazing achievement, we're so grateful for you. ⭐ 💙 #20YearsOfService #MentalHealth #CareerMilestone #HealthcareHeroes
