There are details about applied apparatus for testing, as well as the results from shearing along interfaces bedrock-rockfill material, bedrock-filter zone, bedrock-clay and concrete-clay. The testing is performed in shear box with size 100x100x60 cm. The benefits of this unique large scale methodology are underlined, as well as the possibilities for data extrapolation.

One of the specifics of this landfill is that it is located not far from the Lake Debar. This situation asked for more detailed and sensitive approach to the problem. A brief overview of the necessary approach in a treatment of such problems is given, having in mind the present situation in this field in country. Some basic elements of the technical solutions are given, as well as the conditions for protection of the natural environment and geotechnical conditions for construction. Some of the results form the investigations of the natural geological media and materials for daily and final covering are also given. An adequate attention is given on the results from stability and stress-strain analyses. A necessity for preparing of specific laboratory test of shear strength and deformability...

The Corridor 10 is the most important communication and transportation route connecting the Hellenic Republic with Austria and further with the rest of Europe. On the section between Veles and Katlanovo revitalizations of 10 bridges has been planned. The project is aiming to upgrade the structural capacity of the bridges as well as the abutments. It is financially supported by NATO as a strategic partner to R. Macedonia. In the past 30 years of exploitation significant settlements and deformations on the road-bridge transition elements had developed. Several unsuccessful attempts using surface improvement techniques have been made. Therefore this time, more comprehensive study has been prepared which considers different techniques, such as: jet grouting, earth reinforcement and end-bearing piles. The final decision regarding the methods used and reconstruction solution ha...

Macedonia) has been witnessed. In most cases the structures are small administrative buildings which do not exceed 800m2 with underground often used for offices or parking. This has been an inspiration to investigate the comparative advantages of different deep excavation retaining systems. In fact three designer tasks, very similar by many parameters, had been used to draw the general conclusions. The selected construction sites are located closely to each other, thus share similar ground conditions. The following retaining systems were considered: (1) system of solder H piles with lagging, (2) reinforced concrete diaphragm wall, (3) secant pile wall with primary (reinforced concrete) and secondary (concrete) piles. Although systems are different in general they can still be compared, especially from the economic point of view. All retaining systems had been c...

Such a project of eight storey administrative-residential building located in the city center of Tirana, Albania has been carefully analyzed. The project anticipates a 20.5m deep excavation to be carried out with six underground storeys. The task be-comes even more demanding having in mind the fact that the site is surrounded with six and eight storey buildings with base-ments. The deep excavation pit with dimensions 27.7 36.9m is secured by a multi anchored diaphragm wall. The retaining sys-tem as a temporary support has to ensure the stability of the soil and enable undisturbed excavation. The diaphragm wall has been analyzed in several phases using the finite element method to obtain the shear, moments, displacements and support reactions under earth and water pressure on different levels. In this paper the numerical modelling of the 20.5m deep excavat...
