Abstract. In academic literature the concept of brand familiarity has been accepted as a unidimensional construct, composed by cognitive factors. Based on this conception several studies have been developed, mostly on the moderating effect of familiarity over different aspects of consumer behavior. This article presents two hypothesis criticising the unidimensional view of the concept, as well as a multidimensional understanding of it. The paper presents theoretical argumentation and a qualitative study of razor blades consumption among a convenience sample of young males. Results support the understanding familiarity as a multivariable construct.

Abstract. The paper presents a literature review of brand familiarity concept, from its early mentions during the seventies, the technical definition given to it within marketing communications and consumer studies, and its current understanding and usage. The review runs from 1970 to 2010, covering mayor scholarly publications. It is observed that in the last decades familiarity has been researched from an information processing stand point, with a particular focus on its moderating effect in individuals' cognitive and perceptual efforts.

Abstract. Academic literature is extensive studying the effect of advertising in children, particularly its impact on promoting foods and its health consequences over this population. It is generally accepted that advertising has an effect when retained in consumers memory, as well as the important role of encoding and recall processes. This study examines the relationship between spontaneous ad recall and its influence on childrens buying predisposition. The study is also linked to alimentary goods, not in terms of health impact, but from a behavioral approach. A survey was conducted with two groups of children belonging to concrete operational stage, simulating a purchase situation with their pocket money at a convenience store. The formation of brand consideration sets and advertising influence on that process was observed. The results suggest a minimally significant correlation between spontaneous ad recall and brand purchase predisposition among this population.Key words: advertising recall, consideration sets, infant consumer.

Abstract. Academic literature on consideration sets and its influence in consumer behavior is comprehensive and addresses the phenomenon from different perspectives and disciplines. Most research regarding consideration sets has focused in adults. This paper seeks to broaden the understanding of consideration sets on children, particularly its relationship with the amount of money available for consumption. The experiment shows the influence of this variable in the number of goods purchased, but an absence of correlation with the shape and variety within consideration sets.

Abstract. Since late twentieth century British researcher ASC Ehrenberg has investigated with several statistical tools how advertising works and influences consumers and the market. Along the nineties he published, together with a number of co-researchers from the South Bank University, a series of articles entitled the JOAB Papers, where the initial words stand for justifying our advertising budgets. In these and subsequent articles, Ehrenberg argues in favour of advertisings most important role not to to seek direct sales of a product or service, but to maintain the presence of the brands alive, notorious in the minds of consumers. He argues that that vision of the advertising function is more realistic than other positions he describes as hard sell. This article provides a perspective of the consolidation of how advertising work`s view proposed by Ehrenberg and his colleagues.

Abstract. The paper argues that advertising messages are not capable of mediating brand choice through its effect on consumers' attitudes towards an advertised product. In stead, it suggests the similarity between overall attitudinal indexes seen in competing brands' consumers, phenomenon that might found its origin in the functional parity observed within fast moving consumer good categories, as well as in the knowledge consumers have of those goods. These markers have implications in the planning and practice of marketing communications

Abstract. The present paper introduces the concept and convenience of managing brand advertising as a continuum over time, presenting this prac tice as a value or equity due to its direct relationship with the salience and familiarity levels the brand acquires as a consequence. The advertising continuum as equity is framed in researchers A.S.C. Ehrenberg view on how advertising works, a view which its core aspects are stated in the papers first section.
