Testing for SARS-CoV-2 infection helped to define the interventions against the spread of the disease. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test has been the mainstay of diagnostic testing. Cycle threshold (Ct) is a semiquantitative value that indicates approximately how much viral genetic material was in the sample. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of Ct values among children with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods Between May 3, 2020 and August 3, 2020, clinical laboratory input and the data of patients with positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR tests were retrospectively studied. Results There was no statistical significance between Ct values and the patient's status, symptoms other than fever, or other laboratory findings. However, the Ct value of patients who had symptoms at the time of admission to the hosp...

Children, of all ages, and in all countries, are being affected. Testing for infection with SARS-CoV-2, helps to determine what interventions may need to be put in place to control the spread of disease within a community. A PCR test for COVID-19 is a test used to diagnose children infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Cycle threshold (Ct) is a semi-quantitative value that tells us approximately how much viral genetic material is in the sample following testing by RT-PCR. Our aim was to evaluate how RT-PCR Ct values among children with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 compared with clinical, laboratory and demographic data.MATERIALS AND METHODSIn the study, demographic, laboratory, radiological and clinical characteristics and the effect of Ct value of patients with positive Covid-19 PCR test who applied to the Emergency Pediatric Service with the suspicion of infectious disease between ...

METHODS The participants included 226 children and adolescents with epilepsy and their primary caregivers. The demographic and clinical characteristics were abstracted. An antiepileptic drug adherence assessment was done with the validated Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8). According to the scale's scoring system, 0 points indicates high adherence, 1 to 2 points, moderate adherence, and 3 to 8 points, low adherence. A 17-item public health literacy knowledge scale (PHLKS) was used to measure the caregivers' levels of health knowledge. For this scale, higher scores indicate higher levels of health knowledge. A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the effects of demographic characteristics and clinical findings on full drug adherence. RESULTS The overall prevalence of complete drug adherence among patients was 47.3%. The ...

Materials and Methods: A total of 46 traffic-accident cases involving patients who were younger than 18 years and were admitted to PICU were examined retrospectively. The cases were evaluated for age, gender, the time and location of hospital admission, the type of accident, the sites of injury, the duration of intensive care, the requirement for inotropics, antiepileptics, antibiotics, transfusion, and ventilator, and mortality rates. Results: The average age of patients was 8.54±5.17 years; 67.4% of them were male (n=31). The out-of-vehicle traffic accidents were the most common type of accidents (71.7%) while the in-vehicle accidents were the least common type (13%). The PICU admissions due to traffic accidents were more frequent in summer (34.8%) and autumn (32.6%). Of the patients, 28 (61.9%) had trauma in a single region, and 18 (39.1%) had traumas in multiple regions. Among those with single-site trauma, the most frequent trauma site was head and neck (32.6%). The most frequent complications during the PICU stay were cerebral edema (24.7%) and intracranial hemorrhage (16.9%). Seven patients have died (15.2%) due to the reasons, most of which (n=6, 85.7%) were out-of-vehicle accidents involving vehicle-pedestrian collisions. Conclusion: The study indicated that males were more frequently involved in road traffic accidents and that pedestrians had higher rates of serious injury and mortality. More effective training programs, security measures, legislation, and structural improvements are required regarding traffic accidents.

It can cause severe anticholinergic poisoning after inappropriate and unconsciously usage. We would like to present an approach, accompanied by literature, to the poisoning case for a 6-year-old child who initially presented with altered mental status, abnormal/incoherent speech and agitation, and had an only response to physostigmine. It is essential to consider anticholinergic plant-based ingestions in the differential diagnosis of children presenting with altered mental state, hallucination, and agitation. Health care workers and parents should be aware of toxicities and potential risks of these plants.

Methods: Patients aged under 18 admitted to the pediatric emergency clinic with suspicion of COVID-19, who underwent point-of-care LUS and from whom COVID-19 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) samples were collected, were included in the study. Results: Point-of-care LUS was performed on 74 patients in the emergency room. LUS findings were more sensitive than chest X-ray in the early stages of the disease and in mild cases. Involvement was observed at LUS despite RT-PCR being negative in some symptomatic patients with a COVID-19 contact history. Conclusions: We think that LUS can be beneficial in terms of identifying patients with lung involvement and staging their severity in this new disease in pediatric emergency clinics. The procedure is noninvasive, rapid, reproducible, and low cost, involving simple sterilization. Based on the current literature and our own practical experience, we think that increased use of point-of-care LUS can protect patients from unnecessary radiation and treatment delays during the COVID-19 pandemic.
