André Cruz
André Cruz is graduated in Architecture (1998). He has a Master degree in Architecture theory with the theme of “O Estádio Nacional e os novos paradigmas do culto. Miguel Jacobetty Rosa e a sua época”. This thesis sets off the study of a construction, of its creators and its time, aiming for a contribution to the apprehension of Portuguese Architecture as a result of both its focus on the context circumstances of the construction under analysis – the Estádio Nacional and its surroundings – as well as the conceptual uniqueness of its Architect Miguel Jacobetty Rosa, one of its authors, who expresses in it, as in other constructions of his making, a desire of architectural renewal in which new languages were sought, associated to the dawn of the modern movement.
Currently he is a PhD Student in Faculdade de Arquitectura, Lisbon Technical University (FA UTL).
André is a lecture at Faculdade de Engenharias e Ciências Naturais at ULHT in Lisbon and teaches disciplines of Computer Aided Design, Construction Design and Introduction to Architecture.

The sub-theme of this Master Degree Dissertation holds the utmost contemporariness, for it calls to mind the invasion of virtual contacts and the seek for genuine contacts that dwell in the new concepts of cult. In this Master Degree Dissertation the goal is to construe this sort of happenings that are experimented in several products of spectacular nature and take place namely in polyvalent spaces such as the construction under analysis.
The thesis approaches a space anthropology, through the analysis of the material culture as a reflex of a time, complying not, however, with the idea of a plain correlation between the space organization and society. The interpretation of the construction under analysis space engages not only the observation of its own creation forms and user enjoyment, but also in the forms culturally erected on such space, or in other words, its spatiality.
The material use of the Estádio Nacional and its immaterial experience, rendered by the new communication technologies that emphasize the cult aspects of its experiencing, call upon a research about the reduction of the ideological products therein experienced, that create new concepts of cult, to the interests of the social class that they serve. The thesis allows us to conclude that, as in this construction’s creation own contingencies, so does the public opinion remain subdued to a false awareness of dominant ideologies, even so in this democratic contemporariness.
