Jason Herbert
I am a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota under the direction of Dr. David Chang. I am interested in reconstructing how Southeastern American Indian nations interacted with one another in the late colonial and early republic eras. My thesis examined the Creek-Choctaw War of 1766-1776 and how the Creeks and Choctaws each managed their respective war efforts as their lands and cultures were steadily infiltrated by European Americans.
I plan to continue investigating Creek and Seminole history in the 18th and 19th centuries to understand how indigenous peoples projected themselves as members of the larger world community.
