Abstract : The detective novel is rarely practiced in haitian literature. However, Gary Victor stands out as the first writer to produce a series of detective novels referring to voodoo. The author thus subscribes to the standard of sequential literature. This article proposes to review the references to voodoo in haitian writings. It is by the presence of voodoo in his novels that Victor observes his society and contributes to the renewal of the detective novel.

In this book, Thúy pays tribute to the cuisine of her country of origin, whose women have been able to preserve the recipes, even in exile. Usually circulated among family, the book’s selected recipes invite the reader to travel and experience a sense of displacement. It is in this context that the idea of culinary exoticism will be further explored, as a framework that invites a new reading of family history.
