The backward transition can be driven by pressure at room temperature but not cooling under ambient or lower pressure. The rearrangement of one long copper-formate bond, the switch of bridging-chelating mode of the formate, the alternation of NH⋅⋅⋅O H-bonds, and the flipping of ethylammonium are involved in the transition. The strong NH⋅⋅⋅O H-bonding probably locks the metastable diamond phase. The two phases display magnetic and electric orderings of different characters.

These properties are due to the decreased framework distortion and polarization in their low temperature ferroelectric phases caused by the increased CH3 NH3 (+) concentration.

In this work, two interesting complexes (Li3O-PLY and Li3-PLY) were constructed by phenalenyl radical and superalkali atoms. Why are they interesting? Firstly, for Li3O-PLY and Li3-PLY, although the charge transfer between superalkali atoms and PLY is similar, the sandwich-like charge distribution for Li3O-PLY causes a smaller dipole moment than that of Li3-PLY. Secondly, their UV-vis absorption show that the maximum wavelengths for Li3O-PLY and Li3-PLY display a bathochromic shift compared to PLY. Moreover, Li3-PLY has two new peaks at 482 and 633 nm. Significantly, the β 0 values of Li3-PLY (4943-5691 a.u.) are much larger than that of Li3O-PLY (225-347 a.u.). Further, the β HRS values of Li3O-PLY decrease slightly while β HRS of Li3-PLY increase dramatically with increasing frequency. It is our expectation that these results might provide beneficial information for theoretical and experimental studi...

A total of 23 cases of HCC, measuring from 3.1 cm to larger than 15 cm (median 5.4 cm) in 17 cirrhotic patients, were treated by PEISA. PEISA was used to control rapid growth of the tumour in seven patients and to reduce abdominal discomfort caused by rapid expansion of the tumour in 10 patients. Tumours with arterial Doppler signals persisting after PEISA underwent repeated treatment. The follow-up period ranged from 2-48 months. PEISA was achieved in 69 out of 76 attempts (90.8%). The amount of ethanol injected on each occasion ranged from 2.5-33 ml. Follow-up colour Doppler scanning showed complete elimination of tumour Doppler signals in 22 out of 23 lesions (95.7%). The purpose of this study was to explore the fiber orientation and related electrophysiologic characteristics of left free-wall accessory pathways. The study population comprised 96 consecutive patients with a single left free-wall accessory pathway (33 manifest and 63 concealed pathways), who underwent electrophysiologic study and radiofrequency catheter ablation using the retrograde ventricular approach. The atrial insertion site of the accessory pathway was defined from the cinefilms as the site with the earliest retrograde atrial activation bracketed on the coronary sinus catheter during tachycardia, and the ventricular insertion site was defined as the site where successful ablation of the pathway was achieved. Forty-two patients (44%) had their atrial insertion sites 5-20 mm (10 +/- 3 mm) distal to ...

Twenty-seven patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and 28 patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter were divided into four subgroups, according to the presence of a normal atrium or bilateral atrial enlargement. Thirty patients without atrial arrhythmia (20 patients with normal atrium and 10 patients with bilateral atrial enlargement) were included in control group. The atrial refractoriness in patients with a dilated atrium was longer than those with normal atrial size. In patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and patients of control group, the P-wave duration and interatrial conduction velocity with or without atrial enlargement were similar. However, in patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter, P-APCS (86 +/- 10 ms vs. 73 +/- 9 ms, p < 0.05) and P-ADCS (109 +/- 9 ms v...

We have now defined the nature of the phospholipase activity produced by a clinical isolate of C. neoformans var. neoformans, under native conditions, by 1H and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) of radiolabelled substrates. Glycerophosphocholine was identified by NMR spectroscopy as the sole phospholipid degradation product of the reaction between substrate phosphatidylcholine (PC) and cryptococcal culture supernatants indicating the presence of phospholipase B (PLB). No lysophosphatidylcholine (lyso-PC) or products indicative of phospholipase C, phospholipase D, or other lipase activity were identified. Use of PC and lyso-PC containing radiolabelled acyl chains and separation of products by TLC confirmed the PLB and lysophospholipase (LPL) activities. Lysophospholipase transacylase (LPTA) activity was identified by the formati...

The study was conducted in two parts. In part I, 25 women received 0.01 mg/kg rhRlx iv. After a minimum 7-day washout period, these women were dosed intracervically (n = 10) or intravaginally (n = 15) with 0.75 or 1.5 mg rhRlx, respectively, in 3% methylcellulose gel. Part II was a double-blind, randomized, three-way crossover study in 26 women. At 1-month intervals, each woman received one of three intravaginal treatments consisting of 0 (placebo), 1, or 6 mg rhRlx in 3% methylcellulose gel. The serum concentrations of relaxin following iv administration were described as the sum of three exponentials. The mean (+/- SD) initial, intermediate, and terminal half-lives were 0.09 +/- 0.04, 0.72 +/- 0.11, and 4.6 +/- 1.2 hr, respectively. Most of the area under the curve ...

A detailed pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution study was performed to support the clinical development of rhTGF-beta 1 for wound healing indications. Rats received radioiodinated or unlabeled rhTGF-beta 1 as an intravenous (iv) bolus or as a topical formulation applied to a full thickness wound. Plasma concentrations of TGF-beta 1 were estimated from TCA-precipitable radioactivity or were measured by ELISA. Following iv administration, the initial half-life was rapid (< 11 min), regardless of whether radiolabeled or unlabeled rhTGF-beta 1 was used. The terminal half-life was long (163 min) when the test material was radioiodinated and administered as a trace dose and relatively short (< or = 61 min) when given at high doses and assayed by ELISA. Analysis of plasma radioactivity by SDS-PAGE revealed a time-dependent clearanc...

These proteins cover a 16-fold range of molecular weight (6 to 98 kD), are produced by recombinant or synthetic methods, and may be cleared by different mechanisms. The analyses revealed that the clearance and volume data for each protein were satisfactorily described by an allometric equation (Y = a Wb). The allometric exponent (b) for clearance (ml/min) ranged from 0.65 to 0.84, the allometric exponent for the initial volume of distribution (ml) ranged from 0.83 to 1.05, and the allometric exponent for the volume of distribution at steady state (ml) ranged from 0.84 to 1.02. Human gene-2 relaxin (hRlx-2) serum concentrations after iv bolus administration were described as the sum of three exponentials. The pharmacokinetics were comparable in pregnant and nonpregnant rats. The serum clearance (CL) was 7.4-10.2 ml/min/kg at doses of 46-93 micrograms/kg and was linear in this range. The half-lives were 1.1-2.0, 15.1-16.4, and 53.7-67.9 min, respectively. The volume of the central compartment (Vc) was 48-79 ml/kg and the volume of distribution at steady state (Vss) was 271-336 ml/kg. Increasing the dose to 463 micrograms/kg increased the dose-corrected area under the serum concentration-time curve and significantly decreased CL and Vss. The distribution of radioactivity in the tissues of pregnant rats was followed after iv bolus dosing with hRlx-2 internally labeled with 35S-cysteine. Comparison of th...
